Decision day on my tires any last minute advice?

I want to go with my PZeros again but just don't like the fact that they wore out to quickly.

Ok here is my situation. My car is a DD and I don't do much hard cornering. But I want a tire that will handle a high speed run every once and a while....Any last minute suggestions. Thanks for any advice.

I reccomend Hankooks V12's. Lasted twice as long as the OEM's and almost half the price. Just put on my 2nd set!

I havent had any issues. I saw one post about them being soft on cornering during track days or something to that effect. I personally think they perform better than the OEM's. The look is good. no complaints. I went up a size to 265 the second time. no issues.

Hankook V12's get my vote. I would look into the Michelin Pilot Super Sport as JamE55 suggested, I have heard great things about them but a little on the pricey side.

Honestly the V12's are exactly what you pay for. They are nowhere near extreme traction. I did nothing but burn em up. They suck next to the Pzero's. Weak sidewall too. Good for a cheap replacement. Better than bald Pzero's thats for sure.

My current set of Nitto NT05's hook like crazy. They are more expensive than the V12's but totally worth it. Im getting 0-60's in the 4.1 range on these in cold weather! In the summer they will do VERY well when the street is hot.

Thanks guys for the input. I went ahead and ordered the V12s. I do very little 0-60 runs and my car will never hit the track (much less a drag strip). I know thats weak. At the end I need a tire that I wouldn't have to replace every 10k miles and would hold up if I hit my limiter on the car (174 mph). I really just don't test my car's limit unless it's in a straight line moving. We'll see how they hold up.

Its a decent tire. If you never get into any type of races from a dig you will be happy with them.

You wont get 10K miles out of them though... 8K at the most driving granny style.

Really? I thought I might get more. Ok so what tire would you recommend that would get me above average performance and decent tread wear?

How about the Nitto 555s?

Ok..Just ended up changing my mind and going with the Michelins Pilot Super Sports. I'm weird like that. Beside I can get the Michelins in tomorrow instead of having to wait.

Can't wait to hear your impressions with the Michelin's.
I just put a set on mine and I hate them. Soft shoulder, lousy feed back.
I'll definitely try the Conti DW next. I have them on my M3 and I love them.

I really like my Bridgestone potenza Re 11 for daily driving (and occasional lap days - still have nitto NT 01 on order). A great performance tire! I also hear the michelin super sports are as good (if not better) but a bit pricy...

We'll see brother. I not switching back (once is enough). I decided on the Michelin's because of the tread life, looks and I read they are great performers. I think impressions are all relative. Impressions are primarily based on expectations. Mine are not that high to begin with because I don't track the car. Given the fact that the super sports have a supposed longer tread life, and then I think I'll get what I want out of them. Longer life, quality tire with some performance. I think I was just being cheap in making my decisions with the Hankooks and I was disappointed with the life of the Pirellis. They are good but not the best.

You know the price wasn't as bad as some other "top end" tires. We'll see how they do.

I love the Bridgestone RE-11s too (thanks to you Chief!)

I'm either getting those again or the Nitto NT05s

+1

They do the job but can't compare, in terms of performance, with other offerings on the market. Other than them being extremely cheap, because of the softer sidewall, they do ride decently and are pretty quiet. But on a heavy performance sedan, I'd much rather trade of some of that compliance for a more responsive tire that doesn't turn all mushy at high speed. Mountain runs with the hankooks have been less than confidence-inspiring.

When I wear these out, I'd definitely check out those new michelins.

I went with the Pilot Sport A/S Plus with 45k warranty. Thought the rears would last at least 20k miles......nope, they were pretty much toast at 10k miles of easy driving...........

^^

I've always wondered how do those tire "warranties" work? So they guaranteed 45k but you only got 10k out of them so do you get a new set for free?

It depends on the shop. I know of 2 people that have gotten the warranty to hold. The latest I have heard is that they will only hold 50% of the tread life because of the staggered issue. They do a proration so to make it easy, if the tires lasted 11K miles out of a 45K warranty, they will give you 75% of the new tires (11/45=.25, 1-.25=.75)
I have the Pilot A/S plus as well and very happy with them. I have 7K on them and they should hold me another 5K.

Actually, I had no problem getting them (Discount Tire) to honor the warranty!! They pulgged in the mileage and I received about 57% off a new set of rears. I was expecting more off due to the mileage, but took what I could get.

I have the hankook evo's and for the price they are great but keep in mind that the pricier michelin supersport has a mileage warranty that can make them as affordable in the long term.

The thing that I don't like about the evo is that if you do a fast lane change at high speed ex:80mph you can really feel the mushy sidewall and it actually get's scary IMO.

All in all the evo are still a great value and make the ride more pleasent if you live in a pothhole infested city.

Got the Michelin's put on.. I have to say they are a very good looking tire. We'll see how they hold up. the shoulder tread is really cool. They have lateral cuts but they look a little different. So far so good. The guy at Discount Tire told me to lay off it for at least 24 hours to give tires time to bond to the setting stuff they put on them. I guess this is because of the "touch less" mounting system they use.....hummm.
