Jag vs Merc
The new Jags are pretty amazing looking. Both exterior design and interior design and quality are superb. I was at the local dealership and I asked about the XF-RS and he told me that they would have on in March. What do you folks think? The XF-R has made an impression on me. Maybe my next car? Something to think about?

For the same cake you can get a CLS63 and walk on the XF-GSXR-SRTi-GTK all day long... But do as you wish http://www.gtspirit.com/wp-content/g...ndmore_004.jpg |

There isn't a production photo of one anywhere and they will have one in March?

Wouldn't the XF-RS be a E63 competitor? 4 Door Sedan vs 4 Door Sedan and not 4 door 'coupe'?
Totally agree...and IMO the E63 is a way better car....i was just thinking that Jag would be tacking on a heavy premium to get 50 more hp and some side skirts, so price wise you could get a loaded CLS63 |

http://www.teamspeed.com/forums/asto...speed-com.html although for me it still from one of my main disappointments with my 2009 C, the auto slush box. if only jag and amg would adopt a dct box. |
The new concept 2 door XC-16 is really awesome looking and that is on my list for my next car.

The XF-R and XF-RS are in a completely different price range, but I was seriously considering the XF supercharged before I got the C63. It's a beautiful car and definitely eye-catching as there aren't so many Jags on the street. C63 was a clear winner for me though as I couldn't find anything wrong with this choice, and being a tad cheaper than the XF-S, it was an easy decision.

Im a Jag guy and I do like the new FX but I personally think they still have some sorting out to do on these cars. I considered and FX-R but at the same time was not impressed with the way it drives. I give Jaguar tons of credit with the amount of work they have put into restoring the Jaguar name but personally I think they still have a little ways to go. I think in 3-4 years they will really be back on their came. Once they get a solid following again and they company is making more money they can start building Full Quality cars vs the Almost Full Quality cars they building now. They are so close. I just know the Jaguar history way to well to except these cars as their best. My father has a 69 Jaguar XKE sitting in the garage and that car is the BAR they need to exceed.
Don't get me wrong the FX-R is a great car but it still dose not compare to the Mercedes E63 or the BMW M5.... one day it will but just not yet. |
you have to spend over 130K for the 550 hp in Jaguar........
but the cls can be had for much less, you get 4 doors, and not an ugly new Jaguar design, yes looks are subjective, that's just my opinion..... go for the CLS and save some money for a tune to GO EVEN FASTER, yes, the cls WILL walk all over the Jaguar |
I still have a soft spot for the XFR. At the end of my lease it will be a car that I seriously consider. The price point is 88K, a good 20k cheaper than a CLS63 and E63 here in Canada. I drove a few of them and it is the only other car that feels C63-like in power delivery, just not as loud. Probelm was I had some electronic glitches during my test drives, but I loved the interior and styling.
To me, I still consider Jaguar in the same group of friends as Ferrari, Maserati and the like. Going back to its heyday they were in the same breath as these cars before going more mainstrem, although the XK-RS is an amazing car. It has presence and performance like the Jags of the 50s and 60s. |

No doubt Jag is responsible some of the sexies exteriors and opulent interiors over the years. However they are constantly talking about the reliablity of the "new" Jag and have been for the last 20 years. I wouldn't own one out of warranty and would not expect to get fantastic resale value on one. |

After I ordered the 2012 C63 Black Series back at the end of june with my deposit, my brother, whom some of you now here in MBworld as "coladin" urged me to look at some other options for cars, considering that this BS will cost me in the nieghbourhood of $135K on the road...his top pick to give some serious attention to was the Jag XKR, or once I learned about the XKRS I began snooping around the Jag dealer. The XKRS is hard to get but the dealer said I could have one for around $140K plus taxes here in Ontario Canada, so the car on the road would set me back about $160K. The dealer only had a 2012 Jag XKR Black Edition on the lot so I arranged for a test drive, first off, this car is stunning to look at, it is sexy and the car gets some serious looks, as I drove off, I did notice the exhaust note is nice, the car pulls pretty good and the tranny is nothing to be desired, what I am getting at, the car for a 41 yr old like myself is to tame, I know lots of car mags say the car is a beast, I found it not raw enough for me, maybe when I am say early fifties, it may satisfy me. I dont feel the car is quicker than my now departed C63 and didnt give me that smile every single time I matted the accelerator in the C63, the down shifts in manual in the C63 made me giggle, in the XKR it sounded muted and muffled....I never changed my order for the BS, thankfully, for when I did hear the BS a few weeks back live with the AMG Driving Academy, I am very very happy to be on the list for this car.

I like your choice! the XKRS IS a beautiful car, but there are a bevy of other cars in this price range that I would choose first. One of my favorites is the Aston Vantage S. The CLS63 is definitely another. The outgoing M6...
No, I think you made the right choice! |

I still think that the Jag is an exotic because of my interest in car history and would park an XKR beside other exotics whereas the BS will be a special car for those in the know and as an investment it make a hell of a lot more sense than the Jag. I have chosen most of your cars (except the BS) for you over the years anyways and I think you would have loved the Jag too! |

I've got an xf-r, I've had it for a few years now and it's still a lve affair every time I drive it. I'd say it's the best all round daily driver ive ever owned.
|
They're different totally.
When you talk about sexy and beautiful, you think about Jag and Maserati When you talk about ruggedly handsome and poise, you think about Merc |
at the 140k price range, I would no look no further than a 911 Turbo. As sexy as the XKR-RS is, just can't beat the 911 turbo imo.
Also, I would take a E63 over the XF-R as well. There was an old saying, maybe outdated now, but if you own a jaguar...you have two cars. One to drive, and the jag to sit in the garage. lol. |
For the 100k price, for your use, I would buy a 2004 or 2005 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti. There's one on Cars.com for 94k. Good one's in desirable colors and F1 shifter can routinely be had for 120k. With the Ferrari you get all the Racing history and pedigree, 4 seat comfort and plushness of an M or AMG, and one helluva fun car to drive. V12 Ferraris are always the best deal, as rapid depreciation takes full effect after only a couple of years. let some Rich Mo-Fo take the hit for the first few years and then cash in! This used to be a 350k car when new.

I can see myself in an xfr after this lease is up on the C63. In canada an XFR is in the 85-90K range. There is nothing MB has in that range, although a CLS 550 starts around 94 I think, but I need 5 passenger. E63 is more than 20K more. |
