Just hit the magical 1,000 mile mark on the new C63.
I took my new '12 C63 coupe for a run today in Great Falls, VA. Started out with ~980 miles. Once I hit the magical 1,000 mile mark, I switched the drive mode to "S" and "S+", then had a nice run through the winding roads in Great Falls. I love the rev matching sound of the exhaust when the car downshifts. Saw an Acura NSX stopped at a traffic light. He gave me a few throttle bursts as I passed him (I was making a left turn at a traffic light). It appeared as if he was acknowledging the bad-assed-ness of my ride. Car feels great after the break-in period!

The revs are noticeably higher and quicker in "S+". The car just wants to be hammered in "S+". I'm not quite sure why anyone would want to run the car in standard "S" mode when you have "S+" available. Now I can understand why you would want to run it in "C" mode if you want to save some gas and/or have to drive in stop and go traffic. Regular "S" mode definitely is sportier than "C" mode, but why would you not just turn it to "S+" and bypass "S"?

Agreed, I just use S+ and M to be honest. Sometimes C...never S.
Tell you what - people on the board talk about how the ECU/TCU "learns" your driving habits - this is totally true. Shift points, etc I noticed changed dramatically from 100 miles to 500 miles, 500 to 1000, 1000 to 2000, etc. The more you drive, the more comfortable the car gets for you. Have zero insight into technically how this works, but certainly curious and would love someone who knows how it's actually designed as well as the specifics of the functionality to explain how/why/what (versus a messageboard jockey yapping about 'see it learns...'). |
I have 400 kms to go and then I can also enjoy S+. Great cars.

I hit 850 miles about a week ago and said, "Screw it, Let's do this!!" Wowwww... That said, I find myself in "S" more than "S+", maybe because of my short commute to and from work (NJ to NYC). "S+" is great on the highway, but I find it to be a little too "jerky" on the local roads. "M" mode is great too. All in all, I totally feel you and can see your grin through the computer screen as I am grinning just typing this. #C63AMG:y |
Sooo....enjoying manual mode with 200 miles on my '12 is frowned upon then? No way i can wait until 1000 miles. INsane.
