radar detector/ laser jammer in the toronto area

after getting nailled a couple of weeks ago i am giving it serious thought about getting a radar detector with a jammer installed in my car....is there anyone that is in the toronto area that has it installed that can share their experience and if it works.

thank you

Not sure what the regs are in Canada, but nobody makes a radar jammer that has been successful. You can get a laser jammer that also connects to some radar detectors. My Valentine saved my ass yesterday.

Radar detectors are very illegal in canada and jammers are even more so.

i know that they are very illegal here....just want to know if people are using them succesfully

A good radar detector that you spend the time to learn it's signals works very well. In Canada you'd have to do an stealth installation. Laser Jammers are illegal in Cali and I would also assume in Canada. All the installs I have seen are stealth. The Valentine and new Passport 9500 seem to be the top contenders. The Valentine is the chicken little of detectors but with the arrows and some pratice you quickly figure out what's a real threat and whats just some shopping store door opener setting it off. You can also disable some of the bands X and K if they are not used by the Leo's in your area. The Passport has GPS so you can block known false alerts. The laser jammers are a mixed bag. I'd check out the guys or lidar site for their tests. The Laser Inteceptor seems to have the best reviews.

Beltronics STi is invisible to police in Ontario and Quebec

it has a titanium case that does not emit a detectable signal to radar guns

I got one last year and it saves me all the time. Picks up signals miles ahead

do you also have the G9 anti laser?

The issue is cops can tell when they are being jammed. They may not get your speed but will pull you over and get you for possession of a jammer. It didn't happen to me personally but I have a friend who this happened to. You can try to slow down and then turn it off so the cop gets a signal but a good cop will still suspect you have one.

Although I don't have either (they are illegal :)), I would get an STi as Callmiro says and be done with it... just be careful on non-highway streets where laser use is common.

That's not entirely true, it varies province to province for both radar detectors and laser jammers. Pretty much East of Saskatchewan they are outlawed.

Errr wrong.

Radar detectors vary by province. I believe they are illegal in Ontario among others.

Laser jammers are illegal in a few provinces as well, but I am not sure which.

I know in Alberta, none of the above are illegal.

I have a Passport 9500 with a ZR3 Laser shifter.

Mounting the diodes is VERY important. They must have a level and unobstructed view of the road a head and behind the car. They can't be mounted behind grills, glass, etc.

vastermind 04-20-2012 08:38 PM

been using the Passport 8500 X50 Black after my first ticket
just make sure you hide it in the glove box if you get pulled over..

The anti laser is redundant if you have the STi as it tries to do the same thing but it's not a jammer. The anti laser doesn't have distance strength that the STi has either which allows you to slow right down before the gun even locks down on you.

It's easier to slow down and not get noticed way beforehand with the STi than it is to jam the signal once it's already been locked on you

I bought the STi because I can put it in any vehicle. The anti laser has to be mounted permanently

Just sayin....

If they lock on with a laser, by the time the STi beeps at you they already have your speed. Laser is instant. As soon as they pull the trigger, they have the speed. There is no warning until the cop pulls the trigger on the laser and by then it is too late. The only hope you have with laser is that the detector picks up the cops targeting a car ahead of you... this is difficult for even the best detectors. Laser is the one weakness of detectors. A jammer stops the police from getting your speed until you can slow but, like I said, the cops then often know something was jamming them. If the STi is warning you then it is either radar or laser scatter from cars ahead. If they see you, target you and press the button, the STi will beep but when it beeps they already have your speed and you are toast.

I think that's an incorrect assumption as the STi picks up the signal way ahead of your own vehicle. By the time a laser is locked on you, you would have picked up the signal further back and slowed down already

Don't forget about the Redline - it can't be detected by current crop of detector detectors. I rarely use my 9500ix any more because the Redline is tops for range. It's a great unit.

Fung63 04-20-2012 10:08 PM

or.... we can drive close to the speed limit :)

Personally, I dont mind people going leadfoot with their cars on a hwy or a big street. But it really gets dangerous when you see the retards going close to 100 in a neighourhood with school children.

I am very familiar with the STi (not that I own one) :y

If you do a bit of research on radar/laser detectors and their effectiveness against laser and it is pretty apparent that all, including the STi, are weak. Laser guns don't throw any signal for the detector to pick up. The cop aims, presses a trigger, the laser hits your car, the STi goes off but the instant the trigger is pressed, they have your speed. You can't slow down in time. It isn't like radar where the detector picks up the signal in time. I have read that you can sometimes get laser scatter from cars ahead but that isn't reliable.

Maybe if you get one you can give us some real world examples rather than repeating the marketing material on their sites

Just sayin.....

I've had one for 2 years and pick up laser traps all the time.... Not arguing.....just sayin

9500ix + Laser Interceptor and rulz

JCAMG63 06-30-2012 08:31 AM

does anyone in Toronto area have antilaser G9 or Laser Interceptor installed. Success on the traps on 401 or city driving?

Run the Beltronics if you're in Ontario.

I have an STI Magnum...

My cop buddy and I were testing it.... If you get hit by the laser it's too late they will have your speed.

The detector will not pick up any signals from cars being hit before you (I made sure we tested this extensively)... I made him shoot the laser over my car just missing me and still didn't pick up any signal.

Police here in Ontario rarely use radar anymore. They mainly use laser. SOOOOO a radar detector is useless.

Get this..... Not saying I have one =Op

But a few friends of mine have this and it's the best!
http://www.kmph.ca/products/antilaser-g9-jammer/

It does not give an error code when you're hit... It gives no codes or speed as if the laser can't home in on you. Once you get hit... you slow down and turn off the system.

It's when the laser gets an error code that a cop will know you have a jammer.

Laser Interceptor is better and doesn't give any error code either.

Both the Alg9 and the Laser Interceptor are great laser jammers. Due to US patent laws, the ALG9, is not allowed to be sold in the US.

As far as radar detectors for use in an area that has banned them, you need a radar detector that is stealth. Stealth regarding radar detectors can be divided into to subsets, radar detectors that are not visible and radar detectors than can not be detected by the Spectre Elite (IV).

Let's first talk about radar detectors that can't be detected by the Spectre Elite. All modern radar detectors are superheterodyne. Basically what that means is that the radar detector creates a signal that mixes with the incoming radar signal and that mixed signal s detected. On most radar detectors, that created signal can be detected by a radar detector detector (RDD for short), the newest and most sensitive RDD is the Spectre Elite and is heavily used in Canada. Currently the only radar detector that is invisible to the Spectre Elite is Beltronics/Escort models with an M3 radar antenna. Not all Escort or Beltronics radar detectors use the M3 antena, only the Escort 9500Ci, Escort Redline, Beltronics STiMagnum and Beltronics STiR + use this antenna. The magnesium case has nothing to do with the stealthiness of these radar detectors. The stealthiness has to do with the antenna design of these radar detectors.

The next topic is can the radar detector be seen. Most radar detectors that are sold are windshield mounted radar detectors (WMRD) Most owners will mount their WMRD in a spot that is convenient for them to mount, see, and adjust the controls. Also, the power cord is visible if you mount the WMRD high. Unfortunately, most of these locations also makes the WMRD highly visible to the police. To stealth the WMRD, you can hardwire the radar detector (run the power either from the rearview mirror or fuse panel behind interior components to the location of the radardetector that is mounted high on the windshield) behind a very dark non-metallic tint strip. You may also turn the display of radar detector off, just relying on the audio alerts. Metalic tints will greatly reduce the performance of any radar detector. The next step is purchasing and installing a remote custom installed radar detector. Basically, what is ie here is the radar detector is split up into pieces, a user control, display, speaker, radar antenna, and CPU. The antenna can be installed in the grill of a car, or behind a plastic bumper. It can not be installed behind any metallic object, so check that the bumper and paint does not contain any metal. Mounting behind most grills will reduce performance. The size and shape of the grill openings determine are the interfering factors. Some grills work well, others not. The control module and display can be mounted in areas of the cabin that can be concealed.

Even though all the stealth radar detectors are made by the same company, each one of them has its strengths and weaknesses.
