These H&R drops looks soo nice. Are the H&R softer then OEM springs? I have a set sitting in my garage, contemplating to install or not?

Just a tad softer than P30 springs but harder than non P30. Not very noticeable at all though.

Install 'em!

2012 c63 AMG Sedan + P31, Magnetite Black Metallic / 2011 c300 sport sedan
Hello everyone, trying to get some advice here. I think I'm finally gonna give in and get H&R lowering springs & spacers for my 2012 c63 sedan. All of my questions seemed to be answered on this thread except regarding installation..

4 years ago a friend and I with a few beers installed h&r lowering springs on my 2011 c300 sport sedan, the process wasn't too difficult, just time consuming.

Has anyone installed springs on their c63 themselves? Seeing that the process takes 4-5 hours, I could save $500 by doing the job myself, instead of taking it to a shop and paying $100/hour. I just don't know how much I trust myself ripping apart an AMG haha.

Totally doable just a pain in the butt.

Fronts are your typical McPherson strut and rears are your typical multilink.

Spring compressors + Hand tools + Impact wrench for the front

For the rear: Just get a triple square socket to remove the control arm bolt. I forget the size but get the stubbiest ratchet you can find as space gets tight when removing the bolt to drop the control arm in the rear.

Drop if from the center of the car as opposed to the bolt closer to the brakes.

Also, make sure to buy the right sized shims for the drop you want. You can see pics of 5MM in my build thread as well as everything in between on this forum.

Thanks for the quick reply, I just wanted to know what I was getting myself into with the AMG. Haha I know the process is a pain, but the more money I save on installation the more I can blow in the long run lol. When doing installation on my c300 the process took like 8 hours (but it was just a friend and I at the age of 16 haha) do you think the normal installation time is closer to 4 hours?

This. And just cut to the chase and drop your exhaust right away. Its gotta get outta the way. I did this job once. Once. With a floor jack, in a single garage, in August. And Im glad I did it cos I learned a lot about my car. Now on this new one I paid a shop. $400. Totally worth it. Just did it on Friday. Here it is now.

I didn't drop my exhaust, but unhooked it from the hangars and flexed it out of the way...

In hindsight, maybe I should have dropped. Luckily, I had exhaust work done a week later and had the shop completely adjust my tips since I think they had moved around a bit. Definitely keep that in mind.

The flex technique wasn't......quite......getting.....it.....to where it needed to be. I swear, I could do this job in half the time this time, but still wouldn't unless I had a lift.

Car looks great! Are you running the 17mm pads in the rear or did the springs just not settle in all the way yet?

Both. 17mm pads, and those are brand new springs installed that day. Front may settle some with the weight of the motor right there, wouldn't expect rear to move much.

Thank you.

You will need 37mm bolts! The ECS Tuning spacer kits I bought came with 40mm lugs. Had to get them shaved down 3mm to clear the parking brake in the rear, 40mm was fine up front with my 12.5mm spacers.

so are the 17mm spring pads a requirement on the coupes or is it just the sedan?

honestly they aren't required at all. But it helps keep the same rake as the stock suspension. If you were to leave the 13mm pads the back end would sag (and sit lower) when the springs settle in.

Even for the coupes? I've seen two threads so far stating that the coupes don't suffer the sag as much as the sedans, so that confused me
