C63 guys-check this out.
Hey guys, this is something discovered today at work. Here is the History.
This C63 has had oil changes at 10k, 17k, and currently the car has 32k miles on it(it was just changed again last week) So, basically in 32,000 miles it has had 2 oil changes. Cylinder heads are being removed for coolant usage issue. During the work, I found this nice big glob of SLUDGE. You can also see sludge forming on the top of the camshaft bearing caps. Realizing that C63's seem to run higher oil temp- especially for those who run their cars harder or track. It may be a good idea to change that oil in between services. Good idea for you get the Weistec Catch Can, best investment for all N/A 63 motors.
Clearly for that customer.
Does this void the warranty a weistman catch can?
I think the solution here is more frequent oil changes.
I get my oil changed every 7-8K miles...for this exact reason.
C'mon, this guy (or gal) doesn't took care of the car... Shame on the way this engine was treated. I change oil each 4k miles.
Oil change 5K or once a year which ever comes first. If you track your car changed the oil and brake fluid before and after each track event.
ok sorry for my ignorance but where is that sludge coming out of???
I see the sludge but what is that hole?? |
My car has 17k miles and I've changed the oil 4 times already.
That 10K interval oil change is a bunch of BS. |
I change every 1K - Makes me feel good that there is clean oil in there.

i guess ill buy a mityvac and start doing it every 3-4k. i'm about to roll 10k and havent had a change yet. |
I change my oil every 20'000km - I've done it 7 times so far. No issues yet and my engine is from the first year of production.
I have seen 100,000+ mile engines torn down with 10k-15k mile oil changes all around, 0 sludge and the tolerance measurements were spectacular. As long as you're running the manufacturer suggested oil and changing it after a track event you're fine. Can't really comment on the picture above.
Every 4500 km
That look nasty. Oil change every 5k for me with MOA additive.
Every 6 months for me but I track the car.
I'm thinking of starting to do this more often.. I've been doing every 10k as prescribed by the dealer.. I don't drive my car too hard anymore but that shouldn't be an excuse.
Was looking in to the Mityvac, pretty cool. Do you guys also change your oil filters at every oil change? or can those ride out for a bit? |
Quick question, how would you know if there is sludge build up in the engine? Would you feel a more sluggish performance?
thinking as I am not sure how good the previous owner of my car was with oil changes. any way to check besides taking it apart like in the OP picture? |
The sad thing is that this car is in for a headbolt (coolant leak) issue.
For the OP any way you could find out what type of oil was used??
Oil changed every 5000 miles here

That is ugly...I too wonder what kind of oil it was. 15k is a lot on one change but still I wouldn't expect to see that.
