Idle issue after intake install (Pics & Video)
 

Hey guys,

So a couple weeks ago I bought a Nemesis air intake & boxes and installed it on my car myself. After the install the car was feeling very weird but I had a feeling the car had to adapt to the new airflow. So I kept driving the car so it could adapt to the changes.

Its been a couple weeks now and the car is still being a bit weird but has improved greatly from the start. What happens is right when the car is about to change gears the rpms fly up a bit and then change gears, making gear shifts very uncomfortable. I also noticed this video I took of the car sitting at idle. Watch how the rpm's move with out me touching the gas, it gets worse after I rev it half way through the video.


On the positive side, the car has become even louder! When releasing the gas around 4-5,000 rpms all you can hear is popcorn:popcorn:sound coming out of the exhaust. The quality of the cf is amazing, I have posted some pictures click link below.

Did you use the stock MAFs or did the system come with new ones. If you reused the stock MAF's check to make sure they are clean and properly seated.

You should unplug and replug your ECU which is recommended by Renntech airbox and other airboxes.

I used the stock MAF's, I will check in the morning if they are clean or not but the boxes had slits that were nearly perfect and the MAF's slipped right in and then were tightened into place with 2 little allen wrench screws.

I had issues before with a mass air flow error but that was because of the k&n filters when I first installed them, which I am thinking could be related with this issue.:nix:

It sounds like the increase in air flow at given rpms and throttle angles has exceeded the scale values for your MAFs. The MAFs may need to be rescaled. I doubt any tuners here are familiar with this but don't know one way or the other for sure. The other thing is to increase the variances allowed to keep the tune from thinking the airflow is going out of range. The MAF readings are also used in torque calculations used by the transmission and engine. This can affect shift timing and firmness. It sounds like the MAFs are tuned within a very tight range on our cars.

I wonder if this happens to ROW air boxes too? Anybody experienced this before?

I have run ROW airboxes and had zero issues.


Just my $0.02 it sounds like the MAF's may be contaminiated.

My other question to the OP is do you have any 1/4 times or 60-130 times from stock to this configuration for comparison?

Same here since they are OEM.

It was way to hot and humid today to be outside in the garage, I am very intersted to see if anything appears to be dirty/contaminated. I checked to see if they were sitting properly and everything looked right and were tightly in place.

You can get some MAF cleaner or oil free electric contact cleaner at an auto parts store. Spray it on and let it dry (only takes a short time to dry). Be careful not to damage the filaments in the MAF. Worth a try and sometimes helps.
