Ponoma wrap up

I know I have started several threads on somewhat the same subject but they are different enough I have not combined.

I was out in SoCal for a bit of R & R and I found out the NMCA (http://www.nmcadigital.com) event at Ponoma was on the same weekend I was here. They have not allowed street cars there since the early 90's so I thought why not. There were 500 cars at the event and ultimately we had a lot of fun.

Fri - test and tune
This was exactly as the name implied. We made three runs and the car was got progressively faster as we started to dial it in. The temps were getting cooler (but still in the mid/high 90's) when we made our last run. As you can see in the video and time slips, the car was not hooking up and it was spinning in 1,2,3. Once the car hooked up however, everything was a different story. The top end of this car is absolutely amazing and whist there was only 2/10ths different in times, my car was closing at over 20mph on the guy in the next lane.

Best result 10.212 at 144.61

Sat - true street
I registered the car in the 'true street' category. The format of this class is a 30 mile run followed by the cars going directly to the staging lanes. We waited for about 30 minutes and then we did 3 consecutive hot laps not going to the staging lanes but rather using the return road in the front of the grandstands. What this meant was no icing of the intercooler and the car ran how it would truly run on the street.

3 run result (hot lapping)
10.218 at 140.28 1st run
11.104 at 132.00 2nd run
10.672 at 138.78 3rd run

You have to remember this was the first time racing with the 3.0 blower (the car has many months of SoCal driving with the same set up) so to use another members' words, we were 'testing'. As you can see by the mph, the issue I had was traction. The car performed incredibility well without ice and this shows you just how fast it is as a daily driver. The car weights 3,975 with me so is at full weight (it is 100% NHRA legal for racing and I will have to put a full cage shortly).

I don't kiss a$$ but I can not thank the Weistec boys enough for the true LOW 10 second daily driver they have given me. The fact that someone like me could get into the car on Saturday and produce those results is a true testament to how strong of a platform this is.

I have never made a prediction but I will say 'you haven't seen nothing yet'.

Congrats.

Sounds like you had a blast. Give yourself more credit as a driver, it's not easy piloting a car with that kind of trap speed down the track especially with the lack of traction.

Great job. You must be very excited for cooler weather.

Those numbers are GREAT, especially in that heat!!

If Jim beats be I will be the first to shake his hand as he has already congratulated me.

Between Jim, Keith, and myself it will be an interesting winter (plus we may have awoken the SLR boys out east).

It's great to hear the car giving you back so much pleasure without any hiccups. Looking forward to joining the club. Thanks for paving the way.
