Who has Wrapped their car? Good? Bad?
Guys,
Seeing that I'm in for some repair to the front and rear with my colission. I was thinking of wraping my car for a change of look? What is the cost, maintenance? anyone with good and bad experiences? Thanks Craig |
Its pretty easy to take care and always keep the original paint. Problem is it may peel off in some corners

i recently got mine wrapped matte orange. its been like that for almost a month now its just normal wash no wax. the only hassle is first 2-3 weeks your gonna have to bring it to them to fix air bubbles or anything that doesnt look right. ive also seen the place i got mine wrapped uninstall wraps that theyve installed about 2-3 years ago and no damage on the paint. and this was a f430 scuderia wrapped in matte silver, porsche gt3 and a subaru sti
|
Just don't get a dent on the car because it might be costly to repair the wrap and the dent.

I am feeling the orange!:naughty:

Have you considered dipping the car? Also protects the paint and it wont peel off the corners. Check out dipyourcar.com. There was a GTR dipped yellow and black.

Yeah i am thinking about plasti dipping my wife mini countryman this weekend and if it turns out well ill do mine next.
|
Are you going to do it yourself?

I heard a wrap should be 3k??? but every shop is different. |
A wrap is 4k - 6k depending on the job and type of vinyl.
I wrapped my car and it was great! But matte look is kinda played out now I loved mine..... Also don't dip your car... people who do that aint that bright. http://g35nyc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36385 |

I have messed with plasti dip and have never had that problem. You can also get a kit now to use a spray gun instead of a rattle can. Also a pressure washer on high is most likely not the best way to remove it.. I have always been able to remove plasti dip in big pieces.
|
^^^^ WOW....that's pretty cool. I thought plasti-dip only come in black...
|
Can't wait for the "Hey...i just sprayed my car with DupliColor Bed Liner" thread
|
If you go to their website there a good amount of colors to choose from. You can also get a glosser to make a glossy finish over it. The flat white looks good imo.
|
I've used Plastidip in the past. The main issue is that it has a rubbery feel to it and attracts dust and lint which would stick to it real good. Won't even come off if you spray it down with a hose.

I've used and I still have some parts plasti diped on my car...the grille and the rear trim. They look ok but I would never recommend it for a car. the texture doesnt look anywhere near as good as wrap. it looks rubbery, not matte. but for small pieces its fine, especially from a far distance.
I also recently wrapped my LED strip on my bumper with 3m vinyl and you can see a big difference between that and my plasti dipped grill. I would wrap my grill but I dont have the skills to pull that off yet haha. oh and I have a friend who bought the spray kit and did his whole charger, it still doesnt look to good |
I'll be wrapping mine in 3M Matte Silver in the next week or 2.
I'll let you know how it goes. |
I will be doing a matte SatinGuard wrap when my C63BS arrives. The guys at Premier will be doing it for me (thankfully they are local). They're on this board and can address any questions you might have.
It comes in just one color (colorless) but it protects whereas vinyl doesn't. |

Does PlastiDip do metallic colors?

Advice
spend the 2k and get a proper vinyl wrap. the plasti dip stuff= you get what you pay for. I've seen it done in person on two different cars, i was less than impressed even for the $250 total cost. My E55 now matte white/ with carbom fiber moldings/carbon fiber mirrors ..... from glossy white original http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...T/IMG_0316.jpg http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...T/IMG_0313.jpg http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...T/IMG_0312.jpg http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...T/IMG_0314.jpg |
