The lack of style and excitement keeps me far away from the M5. The grand coupe M6 might be something that could rival my beloved cls63tt. I prefer the handling and tranny of the M5 but the CLS is better for everything else. My 2 cents: wait for the new M6 before making a decision.

NEVER seen any /M owner say they really wanted an AMG.
They may love the sound of the engine and the displacement, but that's about it.

Okay, I have not driven the M5 but I spent some time with one at a dealership and I've read almost every review out there. Both the M5 and CLS63 are beautiful cars and each has its strong points. When faced with a decision like this, I like to make a scorecard to help make the choice easier. Below is my card.
Acceleration- Draw (some test show the M5 a 10th or so faster, others give it to the CLS63)
Road course- M5 (I think the M5 will edge out the CLS63 most of the time but how many owners are taking these cars to the track?)
Exterior style- CLS63 (not even close)
Interior design- M5 (I love the materials used in the new M5)
Gearbox- M5 (Cars with a DSG for the MFW)
Steering- CLS63 (The steering feel of the new CLS63 is fantastic while the reviews on the M5's steering all seem to be negative)
Driving excitement- M5 (I am sure the gearbox allows for a more satisfying driving experience)
Exclusivity- CLS63 (They have and will continue to flood the market with the M5)
Ride Quality- M5 (BMWs always seem to absorb the road better than Mercs)
Engine- CLS63 (a true monster)
Exhaust note- CLS63 (Real sport sedans don't need to pipe in exhaust sounds)
Ergonomics- M5 (very well thought out)
Fuel economy- (who gives a fukk)
Mod potential- CLS63 (I think its engines bigger displacement is key)
So there you have it.......looks like a tie. Sorry Vic, not much help here but since you already have and love the Mercedes C63 Black, adding a BWM M car is a fantastic way to round out your garage.

pretty accurate assessment.
except for the exterior looks, this could be personal preference.
i see why some prefer the "slamin" look of the cls.
but some days i prefer the reserved, "you have no idea what you're dealing with" attitude the m5's looks conveys.
having owned both of these cars. i can see how it would be a bit of a tough choice.
hands down, the m5 is the most fun to drive. and the most comfortable to just BE in.
its/was fun to BE SEEN in the cls.
i took both cars to the track and best my best time was about equal for both. 12.22 in the cls, 12.28 in the m5.
although my time was slightly better in the cls, i achieved a significantly higher speed in the m5 (119.79 mph vs. 116.6 in the cls)
the launch control(race start) seems better sorted out in the cls, although its damn near impossible to set it up quickly enough.

But I do appreciate your input... Now are you worried about the oil pump thing? Whats funny is Im not if, and I say if, I get this car.

Yeah, honestly, I wouldn't be worried about the oil pump thing either. Sounds like BMW's doing the right thing (I read through the massive m5post thread), and a "bad batch of parts from a supplier" issue can hit anyone, really.

im sure they will figure it out asap....odd that it was never caught in all the inital testing thats been going on for a yr.....it happens...

That's because it's not all M5's. Europe has been enjoying the F10 M5 for almost a year longer than the US, also many early US deliveries are not affected. It's just one batch of oil pumps from one of their suppliers. I'm pretty sure they're whipping that supplier into shape now. This is pretty bad PR for them. :\

I've driven the new M5 and I hate the way the car drives. Steering isn't that great but the car is a nice place to be in. Cabin is amazing. I think you'd enjoy it, vick. The M5's engine is starting to show it's underrated as well.
