my turn signals are possessed!

Tried searching but didnt find any threads about this - maybe I'm a unique snowflake? ;)

Driving the car the other day, and had my right-signal on, and I noticed periodically my left signal would flash, both on the dash and for real. Only lasted a few minutes, so I ignored it.

Now if I turn on my left turn signal normally, nothing happens at all.
If I turn on my right turn signal, my left signals come on, and my right dont.

If I flip them back and forth repeatedly, it will generally eventually start working right.

To make it weirder, if I put my wipers into rain-sensing mode my signals work completely fine/normally.

Any thoughts? Sounds like my relay is jacked maybe? This is on an '09 C63.

you might be running low on blinker fluid, just swing by the dealer and ask them to top it off for you....

ha ha ha :P

Remove the steering column cover and see if the fastener for the signal/wiper arms is loose and rotates around the steering column.
I am speaking in conceptual terms. I have not actually done this.

Before taking your car apart, have you tried changing the bulb? Might be a bad bulb...

That being said, I had that problem on my cargo truck at work... where the left signal was blinking while I was using the right signal... it turned out to be a bad ground in the light socket.

Interesting, yeah I'm not sure which bulb would need replacing, but I'll probably start there. Thanks!

Yeah, it was a pain to find out which socket was defective. You almost have to take out each of them 1 at the time, and wiggle the ground wire to see which one is defective. Once we found out which one was defective, it was just a matter of putting a new ground wire. Good luck!

Hey damen,
You ever got this resolved? My turn signals are doing the same. I signal right and the left turns on. I wonder if this is related to the recall for our tailights.

I did not. I can safely say that the recall appears to be unrelated (because I had it done and it did not fix). I *have* found that it does appear to actually be a problem with the mechanism in the steering wheel column itself, since when it breaks if you hit the signal stalk in the correct direction *lightly* it will fix itself.

Good call, my turn signals also were acting weird until I topped off the blinker fluid. By the way, this is the best place to buy it:

Thanks for the update damen!

I have had turn signal issues like the OP on other cars and it has turned out to be grounding issues. I just had to tighten some grounds to get the signals to work properly. Good luck and keep us posted on what it turns out to be.

Now a year later, wondering if you ever resolved this. My turn signals acted up over the past year or more. Started out that my left would signal if I active the signal to turn right and vice versa. Eventually the signals stopped working all together. I can usually correct the issue by turning the car off and on, but it's not long before I lose the turn signals again. The dealer ran a diagnostic and said the computer shows it's something with the steering column and I should replace it. Before I spend $1K+, I want to be sure this is right. There seem to be a lot of complaints about turning signals, but no clear resolution.

sadly I've mostly just learned how to work around it rather than actually getting it fixed :D
