It's time to change the brakes!

Hey guys,

It's time to change the brakes and I am looking at alternatives other than Silver Star (I am in Canada).

What are my options? Any input would be be appreciated!

Just changing the pads or you want to do rotors etc?

someuser Jan 31, 2013 12:53 PM

Should have been more specific, sorry.

Just the pads...

Akebono ceramic pads are great. They also reduce carbon build-up on your rims. Do a search on the forums for Akebono, lots of AMG cars run them.

I have found alternative by the name of TRW.

Anyone knows anything about them? I looked in the forum, and a famous debate was about the manufacturing affiliation with MB... Could be wrong!

I have seen porterfielf rs4 pads mentioned quite a bit on this forum. I have no personal experience with them though

Yep I use these too. RS4.

If your rotors are within the wear limits, just throw on new pads and drive away. Its pretty easy to do at home.

I know factory spec calls for rotors at 50k, but how long have most people been getting?

I put on new pads at 50k km and there was 1mm of wear on the rotors. Easily another 1mm of wear left before getting close to the limit.

Id say the rotors could see 100k km with average use.

Nice, those are really cheap pads, compared to that of Merc's!

Where in Canada are you? Im in Vancouver and I just have Jerry at formymercedes send stuff to pt roberts just over the border.

If you are north of 49 you want to shop online and not at the stealer if you can.
Let me know where you are at and I prolly have a couple ideas for you.
