Weistec 722.9 Torque Converter

Does anyone have this installed? Can someone provide some feedback, seems like this would be one heck of a mod that would really help 1/4 mile times. I can't seem to find any information on it other then on their website.

What kind of gains have people noticed? 0-60 times increase? 60 foot times increase? Is the car louder at idle?

Thanks for the feedback guys
George

Your sig has this TC listed as a mod, do you already have it installed? Lot of people on here with the mod, the TC and valve body are a great combo.

I have this:
http://www.weistec.com/7229vb.html

What I am talking about is this:
http://www.weistec.com/7229tc.html

It is the torque converter, do you have it installed?

My mistake. I am running the converter and I know several other people are as well.

I wouldn't run it with the stock axles if you are drag racing with slicks.

You will most likely break an axle or two like Petro63 did.

He wasn't running the blower either.

What can you tell me about it, it must be influential since with the converter it has a 2500rpm stall speed. Does it have a rougher idle sound? Maybe something similar to what cams would sound like at idel?

They say that it drops 60 feet time by 2 tenths of a second which I am sure is dialed back a bit too.

There is no difference in sound, you basically have to rev the car to higher rpm before it will engage.

Really, how come that happen? If he didn't have a blower that means that it does't exactly correlate with the additional power. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Thanks

I dont know about that.

PetroC63 was breaking axles long before he installed the torque converter

All the TC does is raise the stall RPM speed. This is done to launch the car at a higher torque. I dont think it will effect the Axle in any sort.

I've used the Race Start function on the MCT on a Weistec 3.0L supercharged M156 on street tires. Which raises the RPM @ 4000 for maximum torque. I certainly didnt break any axles

Are you sure??

I don't remember him saying anything about broken axles till after the tq convertor upgrade.

Blown63, MSG petro63 and ask him.

SLS, street tires and MCT is apples to oranges. Your m156 what?? Sl63? That doesn't even have the same axles as a c63.

You start dead hooking with drag slicks and a bigger convertor and stuff is more likely to break if not built for the power.

I don't have the Weistec converter but i can tell you a converter will let you launch at a higher rpm which allows you to launch harder. It does not make a difference in sound. Launching hard does cause more stress on parts. You have a healthy list of mods, i would invest in axles as well if you drag race. I got sick of spending track days on my back replacing axles and upgraded mine. Granted my stock axles are much smaller than the C63

Ummm you're not going to break axles on street tires because you're not going to hook, just spin tires. Don't talk if you don't know what you're talking about.

Just to clarify, I broke an axle prior to the Weistec torque converter and once again after.

400+ 1/4 mile runs will do that.

And I agree with everything blackbenzz said above.

I do not know about the performance aspect yet but day to day driving you cannot notice any difference in terms of too much slippage when doing the daily commute.

It would probably drive a bit better around town because it wont be so jerky when doing low speed maneuvering. (with the weistec TQ Con)

off topic but this would probably confuse people so i will explain it.....

i'm 37 years old and my father is 65 and a huge car guy and loves the performance side of all vehicles . i had to send my car to Dynocomp to get worked on and my father wanted to trailer it up there so he could see what goes on . he met Richard and the guys at Dynocomp and ended up staying in Arizona for 4 days while they tuned and tested the car . i stayed here in El Paso to take care of the family business .

SLS seems to think this is an insult to me but it's just the opposite . i actually forgot about that time but every time he brings it up , it makes me appreciate my father more and more........thank you SLS

some people have a great relationship with their fathers and some don't . i happen to be one that does

sorry Blown63.....just wanted to explain the comment

i agree

the only thing i can add to this topic is that i have the built tranny with the Stage 3 and it works beautifully . you would never feel a difference driving normally around town but do some continuous spirited driving and the tranny works like a champ . the upshifts and downshifts are so crisp . Weistec really did a good job with their products . my buddy has an E85 tuned , downpipe , exhaust GTR with weight reduction and we always battle it out . i know he has more in it than that but he keeps a tight lip on his mods

i'm just the opposite and tell anyone that asks what i have

Nice, my pops is huge into cars aswell. Probably where I caught the bug. Really shows the type of guy to poke fun of that. He must have been shoved in lockers daily as a youth. Hopefully he goes the route of Jacob one day.
