Post Friday night musings...
Yesterday afternoon, I decided to take my Ducati out for a ride to run some errands. As I'm leaving Whole Foods, I see it...the white C63 with personalized plates that I've seen in my condo garage on several occasions. I thought to myself, "Alright, I may not see this around town again, so I HAVE to figure out who it is." As I try to catch up to it, I also see a GT-R with personalized plates I recognize. I'm not sure if he'll see me with my helmet on, but I give him a wave as I pass to catch up to the C63.
Turns out, it's a Persian girl who was driving with her sister (they work together). Apparently, the guy in the GT-R also works with them and I've actually me him before, too. I ran into him as he was trading in his Panigale S for a Panigale R at Ace Motorsports. We started talking about bikes and cars and I never ran into him again. Last week, when BO_Knows and I were taking a drive in the Oakland Hills, we pulled over to snap some photos. While we were parked, a GT-R went screaming by...yep, same guy coincidentally.
As if that weren't enough, I was cruising downtown last night and managed to spot BOTH cars...WTF? So I text my new enthusiast friend and am invited to join in someone's birthday. One of the guys I meet drove a red 458 I used to see around town, and the other guy drives a white R8 v10 that I saw across the street when I was walking in. Turns out, the guy with the R8 knows my neighbor with the ZR-1! They bumped into each other at the gym because my neighbor was shopping for a new car and was considering an R8, but eventually chose the Vette.
So the guy who owns the R8 traded in his Gallardo for it. When I asked him why, he said that he had two Gallardos...the other one is a Super Leggera. He was actually going to get a C63 until the Persian girl got one, so he decided to get something else that no one had.
Anyway, we continue chatting and this guy was just super interesting. He insisted on buying me a drink and since it was a pretty rambunctious group, I just decided on a beer. Out comes something I'd never seen in person before...the Centurion card. He was super discrete about it because I guess he just doesn't want to be flashy about it. I asked him about it and he was super chill with the explanation about how he got it and let me hold it...titanium...nice. Not bad for a 24 year old. The funny thing is, he said that most people have no idea what it is, except where it matters - high-end hotels, Vegas, clubs, etc. So he told me some funny stories about using it at Denny's and Burger King.
These guys like to go on drives so I think I'm joining them on the next one. I'll also invite them to EuroSunday so they can meet other exotic owners and enthusiasts. Looks like I made new friends No pix, but next time.

Yeah, the last pic I saw of their group ride down to Carmel was with 2 GT-Rs, a Gallardo, a C63, a 458, and I forget the rest. When I talked to her about it again, she was like "I saw your car a year ago and was like 'What? That guy has carbon all over his car!'" I sensed some envy there
