Misfire and flashing CEL

Guys,

Car is misfiring and the CEL is flashing. Took the car to the local MB service centre, technician stated car is misfiring due to exhaust as I have LTH and full exhaust.

They cleared faults and called me to collect, 5 mins down the road the car does the same thing.

I took it back and they cleared the faults and the same thing happened when I was 5 mins down the road.

I replaced the spark plugs today and it is still the same.

Anyone have any suggestions as I am really bummed over it!

Thanks in advance for any help.

Not sure what the code was, he said misfire on right hand side cylinders. The spark plugs from the right hand side were black and fouled. I'm not running cats either??

It is an O2 sensor issue.

The O2 sensor should be a little thing that attaches to your exhaust. The misfire shouldn't be related to your LTH. Either the sensor is going bad, or you could have an intake manifold leak like I did.

First, check out the code it's throwing try clearing it. It if comes back on, try replacing the O2 sensor. Hopefully that'll resolve it.

Tunes and trouble seem to be pretty tight on these forums! Enjoy, is the extra virtually useless power actually worth the constant visits to the dealer or tune shop, where are you guys putting down all this HP? Just sayin! In stock form only, you cannot put the power down without lighting up the rears. What is the goal high horsepower while sacrificing torque? Only one coffee rant

GCK-063 you need the code to actually assist you in finding the issue, OBD2 bought or sourced at an auto parts shop will help. Possible bad o2 sensor or burnt wiring from the headers but without codes you are just throwing money away.

I have HP and torque critter and I put it down on the road every second stop light.

I ran a tune and headers for years with an issue.

Probably not versed well in stop light antics but it seems to me that driving a high spirited AMG the way the engineers designed it to run then let somebody schooled in software go and disrupt the status quo of a German thought process, well... That being said in the years with our AMG's they continue to run just as they did the first day out of the dealership, minimal oil consumption, 1 set of tires each, 1 AC compressor, battery for each and no CEL's, both 07's.

Thank you to all that made suggestions. I will tow it back to the dealer in the morning and get them to try 02 sensors.

Will let everyone know the outcome.

Did it not go away after you restarted the car? When I had misfires, it was just a glitch. I shut off the engine and it was fine. When I had a blinking CEL, that was due to my intake manifold gaskets that needed to be replaced. It was causing leaks and running super rich. The O2 sensors kept trying to correct it until it couldn't any longer.

Have the dealer take some reading off both air flow meters and see if one of them is gone bad.

just saying but M156 substantially the same in each amg 63 which the major difference being the tune. there have been a few failure/lemon c63s on here that were bone stock.

how about bad gas? or weak fuelpumps? So did the dealer actually say they ever fixed the car? saying you have exhaust and headers that are causing the misfire.... so they cleared the codes doesnt sound like anything got fixed. Sounds more like thats there diagnosis not a repair. Ofcourse the plugs are going to look fouled out - its misfiring that doesnt tell you anything. other than the misfires are only taking place on those 5 cylinders. which im sure the codes would reflect. first thing ecu is going to do with a misfire is dump fuel and retard timing than it will cut the injector off entirely so it doesnt use that cylinder anymore.

Hey guys,

Im having same issue as well but mine threw a code. Went to the dealer and diagnosed it. Code was 0168 (p0221) and 0164 (p0121). So they changed my throttle pedal and bank 2 sensor 2 sensor. Was driving again overtakes downshifted to 3rd gear and wont shift to 4th and CEL came back again. Same code. Any idea? My car died while im driving lucky i was at the slow lane. Restarted the car. Now i have rough idle.

If they change only one sensor its possible the other side went.

the rear sensors dont have any bearing over fuel control - other than when they turn on the cel and make it run rich from limp home mode. They are simply to monitor if the cats are functioning.

to add - 1 set of tires on an 07'? no wonder you are bagging on people with mods. if you're getting over 6k miles per set of rears you should reconsider not paying extra for the amg.
