3 cheap mods
relatively speaking
the AMG front door lock pull pins aren't cheap, but install is fast
the rear pins looked even worse with the new AMG fronts, and since I heard the horror stories about fitting the rear I did this...
cut the rears off ~ same height as the front
then dremmeled until smooth and the same shape as the front
a dab of semi-gloss, then some plastic polish
miles better
aligned the hood...when I searched found nothing or advice to 'take it to the dealer'
well after looking at it there are 3 adjustment points:
rear there are some small bolts that limit hinge throw to adjust height
middle the 1" body colored bumpers, raise or lower
front: the hooks on the hood that engage the latches have an adjustment nut
playing with these I got both sides the same gap and even front to rear
I used the A-pillar to fender gap as my target gap

my wife bananas! :D
take this as constructive criticism. I found your post hard to read (is it just me?). but once I deciphered it, I understood what you are saying... cool
might want to post pics so ppl know what points you are talking about. For example, the areas where you said you can adjust the hood, take pics of them. I swapped my hood so I know exactly what you are talking about but others might no.
cheers

takes an engineer or mechanic to decipher
I write for those who can understand...all others are on their own
but the hood shut lines are perfecto
summary:
3 cheap mods
1 AMG lock pins (cost of pins + 15 minutes)
2 mod rear to be less crappy looking (~1/2 hour, $0)
3 adjust hood shut lines: 3 adjustment points: front, middle, rear...all easily observable for those who look (~1/2 hour, $0)

and personal experience is worth even more
get off your butt and open the hood and LOOK, all will be revealed
don't expect others to do the work for you
almost 500 views and 4 complainers have complained
I bet 10 times that many have actually opened their hoods instead of their mouths

OK skippy
there are also adjustments to center the grill against the hood shut lines
side note: this is my first MB and the word that comes to mind when I think of them is 'quality', but this is not the case:
the fit/finish is no where near as good as my previous RS4 or M3 (e46)
the interior materials are sub-par, especially against the Audi (although the design is better, but it should be as it is a generation newer)
but the engine note alone erases any 'buyers remorse' that rears its ugly head, and imho, it is a better looking car than either the RS4 or M3
time will tell

Well I think I'm going to open my mouth, other than my hood... What are you talking about with hood adjustments? I see nothing wrong here.
Also, "mod rear to be less crappy"? Pics??
