if you're ever having a bad day, do this.

1. make sure you are at 3-4 RPM in 4th gear.

2. downshift to 3rd.

results:

this downshift seems to be the real sweet spot for amazing and guttural sounds. its even better if you are in a tunnel or have objects on both sides to amplify the sound.

guaranteed to put a smile on your face nearly every time.

awesome tip!

Will do! haha

dubzAMG Sep 22, 2013 12:22 AM

after you redline it, let it decel, than listen to the awesome exhaust crackle! usually does it under 2000 rpm

Thats a great down shift hehe also going about 75-80 in 5th gear (not sure rpm) and downshift into 4th and you get what sounds like a large caliber rifle going off ! Also not sure if its only on the new MCT trans but if your in manual going 60 and have it in 7th gear hold the downshift paddle/knob down and itll downshift into 6th keep holding it down and it'll jump from 6th to 3rd and all hell will break loose

same things happens when you accel hard in that 3rd gear range and then let off the gas. you get some nice crackles and pops!

Yes, that 5-4 shift at those speeds is one of the best sounds.

other than that, anytime i can get it to crackle and pop I do. Always puts a smile on my face.

I want to try this but wont this wreck the engine. As soon as you downshift wont the rpms go too high?

Ps.Sorry, just got my c63 last week and still playing with it

rage2 Sep 24, 2013 11:30 AM

Flip your rear seats down and try the same thing, you won't even need a tunnel. I drive with my rear seats folded down until someone needs to sit in there haha.

What i mentioned is totally safe given that the RPMS usually stay under 4500.

Good call on that! Guess I know what im doing later :)

I was shocked to hear the difference it makes putting those rear seats down.

The trunk acts like a sub box or something and just amplifies the exhaust sound out back into the cabin. I accidently found out about it when flipped the seats down to move a table in the BS. At first I was looking around everywhere to see who was making the same but louder noise as me, then I realized it was me haha.

Someone smarter than me can probably figure out how to make a properly sized sub box port using the trunk's measurements for an even better effect than just flipping the seats down.

I've recently purchased my C63 and I am constantly driving around with the windows down changing up and down for the sounds. Can't wipe the smile off my face.

USCGTO Dec 13, 2013 05:18 AM

Guess I am gonna flip my rear sears down...

BiturboSF Dec 13, 2013 06:15 AM

That's pretty cool, how many others tried the rear seats down thing? I want to do it so bad but I won't see my car until another week!

+1

I can't believe I'm going to try this but it sounds so worth it. :D

Straight pipe the resonator! Trust me its the cheapest most effective mod! All it does is make the stock sound louder on startup and under throttle -No Drone! People often say I performed voodoo to the car because to sounds so much better than stock! oh yah it cost me $80 haha

What shop did it for $80? Is it within the GTA? I wanna put straight pipes on my reso also and install an h-pipe also.

Thanks

Was that just deleting the resos or the secondary cats too?

Just deleting the resos, that's loud enough for me!

I would love to hear how it sounds, do you have a video of it by chance?

PS: Fellas if you are in the West End (Mississauga Area) you can check out Zorro's just off of Dundas. I have had most of my exhaust work done here and the guys are good. Good welds and nice bends.

If the res delete sounds good, I may just get it done in the spring. I don't want it to drone, thats my only concern.

Kris
