New member with cool kill story

First a bit about me.
My name is Shane. I came from the BMW scene and had a heavy presence on E90post.
I have been a long time lurker on here studying the C63 and finally decided to make a purchase about 2 months ago.
I have an 09 C63 in Arctic White over Black. I have not found a reason to be disappointed in the car yet. I like everything about it including the power delivery.

Onto the kill story.
So I invited a few friends (04 C5 Vette Z06 / 2013 Boss Mustang - Both cars still basically brand new. Vette 13k miles-stock / Boss 500 miles-stock) out 2 weeks ago for a spirited car cruise to then find ourselves at an autocross event in my local town (we were spectators only).
As we made our way to the highway with intentions of making some safe but bad intention pulls the games were on.
The Boss got caught up in traffic a little ways back, but the Vette and I had a clear .5 mile ahead of us to throw it down and that is exactly what we did.

Z06 pulls up next to me, downs into 3rd around 50mph at this point. I wanted to let the C63 control the transmission which I later regretted. My buddy punches it, as I hear him put it down I floor the C63, although already in a lower gear, the C63 wanted another one. At this point as the C63 downs another one, the Z06 pulls about a car on me, then...

The C63 came alive, as the rpms began to climb, the Z06 had to shift into 4th, it was all over. From 50 to somewhere around 120, I had him by 2-3 cars.

This was the only pull we had time for, but those asking if the C63 is faster than the C5 Z06 stock for stock, the answer is yes from 50 to 120.

P.S. My buddy running the vette, is one hell of a driver and shifts were no issue whatsoever, very smooth and quick.

Thanks for reading.

Nice introduction! White is the way to go :)
And thanks for sharing your experience. It's interesting to know you were able to kill that C06, stock vs stock.
Welcome!

Get a tune...Throw the car in M mode with ESP OFF and make sure you're wearing a diaper..Enjoy the car :y

I had a Z06 try to pull on me on my way home from picking up the car. He couldn't. Felt like we were about even. Not bad for a stock pig sedan.

csexty3 09-30-2013 06:05 PM

I don't see a stock C63 pulling 3-4 cars on a stock c5 z06, but good kill!

PTW 09-30-2013 06:13 PM

And this one time at band camp, I got to have a good pull........

3100 LB car with 400 HP vs 3600 LB car with 450 HP with a fast shifting automatic, I think it's possible!

Congrats to the OP for having fun with his new car!

To bad you didn't get to run the Boss. An owner over on the SVT boards is bragging how he destroyed a C63 and another 5.0 guy says he pulled us "up top" to 135 or so.

Autosport7 10-01-2013 08:05 AM

Thanks guys.
I see some sarcasm in some posts and skepticism in others. I'm not here to try and brag or tell tall tales, just shared my experience with another notorious beast. To clarify, I didn't say "3-4" cars, I said "2-3" cars. And what does "popped my cookies" mean anyway?

Yeah the Boss would have been a fun pull as well. The guys with the Z06 and the Boss are brothers and they claim they are pretty close runs.

3600lbs! Lol what koolaid are you drinking. Fast auto shifting in a 2009?

You must drive a SLS and be confused.

I see vette's at the track all the time, z06 too, they don't even hit the 11s here, for a very light car, they are a let down.

I guess I'm not surprised that a C63 vs .... thread would spark some attention and raise some debate, but if you search, this site in particular http://autos.yahoo.com/mercedes-benz...fications.html would indicate curb weight for an 09 does in fact sit right at 3649lbs.
As for the time between shifts for an 09, this could be cause for some discussions. I find them relatively quick as well when driving with enthusiasm. The 09's AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic transmission, while shifting with paddles does seem to have a bit of hesitation, having said that, when letting the car shift by itself, although not as quick as DSG, it does in fact show me that it is superior to that of any human switching gears that I know. IMHO obviously.
Just my .02

I also see that you have a built tranny, I suppose it would be easy to rag on the factory transmission once an upgrade has been made.

I googled the weight, must have not used a reliable source :smash:

Either way, you never know the ability of the person driving

C63 isn't fast shifting? It's the fastest shifting car I've ever driven and I've driven a lot of cars.

It's a quote of Bletch the Walrus in a scene from "Meet the Feebles" where he is just about to blow getting a headjob from the cat under the table......happy to clarify :)

He jumped by a car, then you reeled him in and put 2-3 cars on him.

By the way I've done quite a bit of street pulls back in the days, and reeling a car in after it jumped on you is much harder than pulling from an event start.

I just don't see the C63 being that much quicker than a C5Z especially from a roll as that's where the Vette shines. Unless of course the Vette guy is shifting very slowly, or the car is not running right.

Plenty of vids of the C5Z beating E55s on a roll, etc., and plenty of vids of the E55 beating stock C63s.

Again, it's a street pull and anything can happen.

Like I said, good kill :y

The MCT is much quicker, and DCT cars are even quicker.

That said it's certainly much faster than a manual car like the C5Z :y

Maybe I should have been a bit more clear in my original post, when the 2-3 car comment was made, the 1 car jump was figured into the equation.
The C63 had the Z06 by 2-3 cars overall guys, that includes picking up the 1 car jump he gained on me from the start. Maybe this was why there seemed to be some skepticism from some members...

Just curious does your car have the performance package?

The most reliable source is a scale. If you actually weigh a C63 on one you'll see that it's for all practical purposes a 2 ton car. A C63 coupe with 1/8 tank of gas weighed 3950 lbs without driver on a scale at our local track. Sedan a little heavier. Edmunds weighed a pair and the C63 coupe was 3990lbs and Sedan 4001 lbs with full tank without driver.
