She has finally arrived - 507 Edition!

Hi all,

After a 4 month wait, the car has finally arrived! Monitored the car from Bremerhaven to here in NY. I got a call from my Sales Consultant today saying the car got to the dealer this afternoon. He took some pics for me. Here she is both on and off the car carrier...Very exciting!

Now, I need to wait until Thursday to pick up the car. Work stuff getting in the way but it will all be worth it. Won't have a chance to really get a feel for the girl until Sunday. Either way, can't wait to her around. It will be interesting to see how we deal with NYC streets! But, exploring the back roads of NY State will be fun...already have a route up to Hunter, NY.

More pics to follow on Thursday.

I hate you a little bit. That's the exact car I ordered. Sadly I didn't get a sedan allocation. Looks great, enjoy!

I'll go ahead and take her for a test drive. Then, break her in for you. But then by the time you get her, she will be perfect and ready to go!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the replies all. Definitely is an exciting day!

Jordanaf - Nice one! hehehehe. I'm sure you would love the roads in what we NYCers consider Upstate NY (Westchester, Rockland, Orange Counties)! Many mountain roads through the Catskill Mountain range. That's where I'll be "attempting" to keep it under 4500 RPM and <140 KM/hr! Discipline!!!!! I'll let you have her out at the Circuit of the America's in Austin. Let's see how high we can get her on the back straight!

On another note, there has been quite a bit of discussion on the board about a variety of different items: oil type, weight, heating/cooling, break-in, camber/toe settings, etc. I emailed my Sales guy some questions. He has scheduled a meeting with the Head tech in the Service Dept for tomorrow! So, hopefully, I can get some official answers to our questions. Cool stuff.

More to follow tomorrow.

Congrats! Your car is identical to mine except I have the coupe.
The color combo is fantastic in my opinion.

Thoughts on the car.

Hi all,

Wanted to post up some pictures and thoughts on the car. I was going to include the Q&A session with the shop foreman in this post but it was way too long! I'll create another thread for that one. Here are some thoughts.

Hands down: Absolutely FANTASTIC CAR!!!! Such a different level than the Audi S4 in all aspects: power, torque, dynamics, interior, fit/finish and feel. Granted, the S4 was a 2004 and it was over 10 years old. So, many things were out of date. However, this car is just so much different. The interior is fantastic. All of the "bells and whistles" are great with the car: trip meter, AMG display, lighting package, console, etc. The car feels more "fighter pilot cockpit" in nature than the S4. Everything is very clear and naturally placed: speedo, RPM and temp gauge on left. Loved the seats and leather...very supple yet firm. I can see how people can take long road trips in this car. The seats are very "comfy/cozy" as Matt Davis said in his review of the car. The alcantera wheel is amazing. I was expecting it to be "mushy" but the material is very stiff. Loving the flat bottom and top! The car feels a bit small on the inside compared to the S4. The head room seems a bit lower and the back seat is rather small. However, an "averaged size" person would easily fit in the back seat.

Speaking of seats, there was a thread here about the seats being narrow. My wife found the buttons on the side of the seat and was able to adjust the side bolsters. For me, the factory setting was perfect. Now mind you, I am a rather big guy (former inside linebacker in High School and College). I'm not at my playing weight anymore but still hit the gym 5-6 days a week: 5'11", 275, 54 inch chest, 40 inch waist, 19 inch arms, 20 inch neck, 32 inch legs and 20 inch calves. For me, the seats were great. I think the main thing is the width of one's torso. The side bolsters are positioned for the mid torso area. My wife, former opera singer, has a rather large rib cage. As mentioned above, she set the side bolsters out and was more comfortable. Definitely play around with the settings to find the right fit.

Sound system is great. Love the harman/kardon speakers. They seem plenty clear and have a nice clarity. I was curious to see that the equalizer did not have a Mid-Range setting; only Treble and Bass are there. However, the sound was still great. Loving the HD radio! The loaner cars we used to get from Audi had the feature and it was very nice. The News/Traffic stations are perfectly clear now: for those in NYC, 1010 wins and cbs880 are completely different in HD!

Driving dynamics are insane! I didn't really go Wide Open Throttle with the car - want to take it quasi-easy with the car for a little bit (see next post about thoughts on break in for shop foreman). Probably won't do that until I go a little more mileage on the car ~150 miles. However, the car is definitely quick. As mentioned in all of the video reviews and mentioned here, it's the torque that makes this car feel great. Even short shifting at 3.5K in comfort mode, getting up to highway speed is just effortless. I did one rather quick start and scared my wife a bit. Traction control went crazy but not too bad. I was maybe at 50% throttle. Plenty quick and most importantly, the feel was there. In the E63 I drove, the feel was not there from the torque. I imagine WOT will get you to license loosing speed rather quick! Speaking of that, passed by two officers of the law going 10 over (NY State Police and Parkway Police) and didn't get a second glance.

The front suspension is really great. Much better than the S4. This car has more of a "point-and-go" feel than the S4. The new suspension components are nice. Never drove a C with the old components so there is no point of reference. I was taking corners at the same speed I did in the S4 and a little higher: no drama at all. The car came with the ContiSport tires...I can't even imagine how this car would be with the Michelin PSS tires! I'll find out next summer. I've only got 1 month on these before the winters go on. As someone mentioned here, I suppose that at the limit the car has a different feel. There's not really a good, safe place to do push to the limit in the city. I suppose a track day is in my future! It would be nice to see how this car behaves on the limit...I suppose it is more prone to Oversteer and a bias towards Neutral. After looking at a Randy Pobst video of the Black Series at Laguna Seca, the car definitely seemed Neutral Biased. You could tell at T6...hit the apex and drifted right out to the curb on the outside in a perfect Neutral state.
The brakes are still being broken in. A few squeaks, moans and wonderful aromas! However, from what I can tell now, the compound seems good. They definitely need to be at the right temperature to get the best stopping power. The hotter they got, the better they performed. Not sure what the Coefficient of Friction numbers are for the pads but they seem plenty "grippy" for day to day driving including spirited driving. After more miles are put on the car, we'll find out!

That's all for now. I'll create another thread of the Q&A session I had with the shop foreman.

Not yet. Those are next. I barely had time to drive the car this week: pick up on Thursday, travel for work on Friday...not drivable in a reasonable amount of time unfortunately.

Nice write up. I want one, but would have to give up the SL and 500E.
