First 2000 miles in C63 507...updated with winter wheel pics
Went to get my diff flushed and my winter wheels and tires installed as I have hit 3500kms. Gonna miss those black beauties....
Surprised to see that my tires are well past half worn. Not only the rears but the fronts as well. Now I am well aware of the suspension setup which does eat tires. My 2011 would go through the rears in about 4000 miles and the fronts about 7000 miles. Albeit aggressive driving but nothing hooliganish or anything like that.
These Conti 5P are not going to make it that far. Like, I don't mind the higher tire wear but this is rdiculous and told them that I do not accept that 2000 miles the tires are past half worn. They will look into it. They say that the factory tires are not the same as the same tire at retail, whatever that means but the fronts are worn as much as the rears...I don't get that.
Other than that, a big improvement over my nonp31 C63. The steering is heavier, the suspension is a significant, and probably the most surprising improvement from my 2011. It is much more refined over bumps and cracks in the road. Brake pedal and feel makes this car very easy to drive daily as I do and I can't get enough of the alcantara wheel!
The transmission is very good although sometimes in M mode it does shift rough. The shift speeds are much quicker. In Coffee Mode (C) the car gets into 6th before 40mph, for pete's sake. I find that driving the same way as my 2011 the mileage is exactly the same which is great considering the extra 56bhp.
This engine, though, is just about as good as it gets. I wasn't driving a normal car before. My C63 was bloody fast but this, this thing feels so angry, nervous and just eager at all times. I find the urgency that it revs starting at 3000rpm is astonishing. It sounds as good as ever and with the way it shakes at idle at a light, like a NASCAR racecar, just adds to the fact the this is a special sedan.
So far, everything seems screwed tight, even in those early frosty mornings. Can't rally think what I would want to improve, it has been everything and more. People rave about my wheels and the general nasty aggressive look of my car.
Glad I got it and the only good thing about winter driving this car is the cold startups, get ready nieghbours!

I found the rough idle shaking to be subdued by removing the charcoal filters and using afe pro dry filters. It also sounds a bit meaner on cold start and in general feels a bit smoother. Hope you will continue to enjoy it!

Nice review and read mate... Mine lands here in a month and reading this gets me excited and reassures me I have made the right decision buying this car. Great to hear there's a noticeable difference between your last C63 also.
Ordered my 507 in June, so you an imagine this has been a long wait ...
Cheers

Hi Coladin,
Great write up.
Question: what wheels are you using for the winter? For me, I'm going to need to swap soon as it's getting a bit chilly here in NY. Debating on just using the stock 19s (would rather not!) or getting something from tirerack.
Thanks in advance!

How much did you have to pay for the diff flush?

The 2012+ is a lot smoother overall.
Also regarding tires, my contis were the same way. Replacement Contis (I have always heard OEM tires even same brand/model were different than the exact same aftermarket supplied models too) lasted a bit longer. Now on PSS. Funny, 15k soft driven miles and 3rd set of tires, gotta love this machine

Worned tires at 3.5k km? Watch out for joyride bro. J/k lol
Ur car is too nice to drive in Ottawa harsh winter! Unless ur car is leased & u want to fully maximize it, I would just park it & drive a beater.
I heard it was snowing in Ottawa yesterday? I'm sweating in Thailand right now while my car is in hibernation mode already. Lol

I am around 1200 and can echo the comments by the OP. I was under the impression the diff flush was free of charge?
Everyone paying? Is that $170 Canadian?
Seems like they should offer this up for free...
