Guy backed into my C63 yesterday. Glad I have a DashCam installed...

Yesterday I was with a couple friends going to grab a bite to eat in Berkeley. Was circling the block looking for a packing spot, and started moving into the right hand turn lane, when the guy in front of me just starts backing up. Not sure what he was doing, as there was no legal parking spot there... Bumper, grill, and hood were damaged. Though maybe I'll get a new 507 hood out of the repairs! haha. So glad I installed a dash-cam so that he can't try to claim that I rear ended him or something!

that stinks.

Mort 11-18-2013 05:13 PM

Wow that sucks! What was that guy thinking?

What's with the guy walking down the middle of the street?

Hope it buffs right out for you, good as new.

Best of luck getting it put right. :)

abcut973 11-18-2013 05:39 PM

Man!!! Bad luck really comes in threes :D
I hope you'll get sorted asap and with no additional costs. GL

CoolBDPhenom03 11-18-2013 05:46 PM

I have to say, Anthony and I haven't had the best run of luck this year.

olszowa12 11-18-2013 06:17 PM

Why didnt you use your horn?

149max 11-18-2013 06:18 PM

+1 I would have used my horn earlier.

But oh well what can u do

sinape62 11-18-2013 06:22 PM

I did, just not soon enough, haha. I dunno, in the heat of the moment my brain wasn't thinking clearly.

Sorry, couldn't help but focus on the dialogue pre-accident... what "gets all slippery"?

HAHAHAHA!

That sucks man, I've had a few of those 'slow motion' type accidents happen way in the past. Too bad you didn't jam it in reverse while blasting your horn... it is this sort of thing that keeps me on my toes when driving around town. So many terrible drivers out there.

Merc63 11-18-2013 07:50 PM

Personally I think you're kinda stunned, if you would have beeped right away when you seen his reverse lights, a good 5-6 seconds passed since his reverse lights came on, the chick had to finally tell you to hit the horn.

balthaser 11-18-2013 08:08 PM

Why did the old man shake his head after he came down and checked the damage?

He looked like saying to OP :"How do YOU bump into my car?" Was he disoriented or what?

^^ +63.. Not putting the blame on u, but ur reaction time was very poor. I would have changed lane or beep the heck out of my horn the minute I saw his reverse light. The street was not busy at all.

He couldn't change lanes. There was a hobo in the street.

Lots of room from the time the guy put on his reverse light. The hobo started walking out of the crossways after he saw the sidewalk repairs.

Either ways, it sucks to hear about OP's misfortune lately. Good luck with the repair.

avery.whss 11-18-2013 09:12 PM

ouch! i rear ended someone at <15km/hr and needed a new hood/bumper/light and that's costing insurance 8k-ish

BossChan 11-18-2013 09:17 PM

Sorry to hear :(

Almost happened to me once before too, except it was on an uphill slope. The car in front of me started rolling backwards and didn't realize even after I repeatedly honked her... ended up having to reverse just to avoid the accident.

Seeing your video makes me realize how important it is to have a dashcam!

WESLEY KAY 11-18-2013 09:38 PM

Sorry to hear Op. That is why I rock a dash cam as well. Also don't listen to the fools knocking you for a slow reaction time. This accident was all the other guy's fault. Nice car by the way and I hope you are able to get the 507 hood! They are sick!! Wes

He said hood, bumper, grill. Probably $5-6k. Those headlights are expensive!

Get everything replaced that needs it... check radiator mounting and headlight thoroughly... use a MB certified repair shop... etc.

Here's a thought too... after a new bumper, get a clear bra installed. Body shop painted bumpers do not hold up as well. I'm a year into mine and it is pitted more than the OEM bumper.

Yup. You're exactly right. The last two incidents required new radiator supports. I'm also thinking about putting a clear bra on the hood if I'm already doing the bumper.

yeah i believe it...this is basically what mine needed...it sucks!..it's funny..the body shop...they gave me a elantra for a loaner with 140 HP :rolf: ...you guys who say the 7 speed is awful...i DARE you to go drive this thing...it really made me realize how lucky we AMG owners are...like just the torque and instant power we have on tap  ..sometimes you forget about it because it becomes normal...anyways...hopefully they can give you a loaner benz and not a hyundai like they did me

Zeee_Q 11-18-2013 10:52 PM

Good luck getting the 507 hood and hope everything works out.
