2014 C63 Sedan
Newbie Here…..Buying a C63 Sedan this weekend….Advice?

Hello All,
I'm a newbie here on this forum.
I am likely buying a 2014 C63 Sedan this weekend.
Equipped with:
Limited Slip Differential (Yes!)
Bi Xenon Headlamps (OK)
Lane Tracking Package (who cares)
Keyless Go (Want it)
Parktronic (who cares)
Iridium Silver w/ Black Dinamica interior (might have preferred white exterior but Silver is OK)

So….I've owned a couple of BMWs over the years and owned a Corvette C6 (fast but not great build quality) and this would be my first MB.
I'm looking for some general statements and recommendations from you seasoned MB owners. I prefer naturally aspirated cars over turbos or superchargers, that's why I am opting for the current C63 and not waiting for the new turbo motor.

Comments?
Recommendations?

I've seen a number of posts here about ECU tunes that can net 50BHP increases.
Recommended? Can the chassis,Tranny, Rear dif handle it?
Should I just leave it stock?

Thanks In Advance,
Mark

Car sounds like a winner.

Unless you've owned an M3 or more the C63 will surprise you. Compared to a C6 its going to feel faster and more stable. I've owned 2 AMG's and loved both of them. The C63 is a great overall car with an amazing motor and transmission that will bring a smile to your face.

The transmission, chassis, and rear diff is good for 600whp so dont worry about that. There are guys with Stage 2 and some Stage 3 superchargers running with bone stock transmissions. The ECU tune will net a tad bit more than that if its a non-p31. A bit less than 50bhp if it is a P31.

Modding the car is a slippery slope! Enjoy the car first then decide what you would change about the car to make more of what you want out of it.

If you really want to change the car, go get a set of long tube headers, tune and filters and call it a day. You'll have a monster on your hands right away. Enjoy.

2014 C63 Sedan
Thanks Very Much Johnny,
This is exactly the type of information I'm looking for.
I figured with a real world 0-60 time of under 4 seconds and a low 12 second quarter mile the car was plenty fast stock, but you know us gear heads…..we'll always take more power if it's viable and doesn't overstress the car.
I think I'll probably leave it stock….at least for now

Any overall reliability issues with the current C63 Sedan?
Powertrain, electronics etc. ?
Sounds like you recommend the car?

Mark

i thought the lane tracking and parktronic options were useless as well when i bought my car, but can't imagine not having them now. come in handy every day.

Well seeing that this car has been out for sometime they got things really well buttoned up with the 2012+ cars. My 2011 has been pretty solid for me. Other than a intake manifold gasket leak, a clunk in my suspension (H&R coil problem not Benz) and a shredded belt (debris caused) its been very solid. My E55 was a money pit compared to this car.

I would definitely recommend the car. If it was a 2010 or older I may be hesitant. But since its brand new, cant go wrong.

My recommendation is to buy it, drive it, love it, and never look back. Unless you are used to super car performance this car will probably surprise you. There has yet to be a time were I get into my car and I don't have a huge grin on my face for the duration of the drive. Enjoy it!

You're going to love the DINAMICA interior.

Very sporty looking and oh-so-comfortable.

Thanks very much folks......keep the comments coming

What is DINAMICA?
A faux suede?

And what is "Pre-Series PRO 3 Testing" ?

I'm glad to hear that Parktronic and Lane Tracking have value.

Thanks
Mark

That's correct, it's a suedelike material, I believe similar to the Alcantara in Audi's. It's a must have for me, much better than full leather IMHO.

Congrats on the new C63 though, sounds like a very well optioned car!

+1

I think the full leather interior looks stunning in the C63 (particularly the red and red/black two-tone option) but I had heard many cautionary tales about the leather wearing/wrinkling rather quickly.

The DINAMICA still looks and feels like new.

I bought a near identical version about 2 months ago. (White without Parktronic) Just had the 2k miles LSD service and I'm loving it. One small thing that annoyed me and I have partially corrected, is the door lock pins. The standard pins are long black plastic pins that stick out pretty far. I suggest getting the optional metal AMG pins since they look much better and they don't get in your way when you put your arm on the door or try to reach out the window at a drive-thru.

I say partially corrected because the front doors are easy to unscrew and screw on the metal replacements, so I did that. The rear doors have to remove the inside panel and pop the old ones off and pop the new ones on so it's more involved and I'll need more time to do it, plus they don't annoy me as much since they are in the rear.

I also already did a EuroCharged ECU tune since the pricing right now is good, and I'll dyno it this weekend to know how much the power increase is.

Bottom line is that it's a great car and you can't really go wrong. Enjoy.

Thanks Again All…..keep 'em coming

BTW…small bio on me:
I'm 52 and work in Safety at Kennedy Space Center.
I'm a huge gear head. My problem (like many of us) is I want them ALL.
I am trading in my '13 Silverado Z71 and my '13 Scion FR-S.
I'd like to keep all my vehicles but can't justify that right now. The Scion is a blast to drive but the ergonomics didn't work well for me. I will miss both of my vehicles I am trading in…..but I am stoked waiting on the C63. It's coming from a dealer in Texas and I put down my deposit this afternoon.
I do still have my '69 Camaro SS 350:

http://home.roadrunner.com/~mark1/

I restored the car myself. Took me almost 7 years.

My MB dealer is in Melbourne FL and I live in Rockledge (for those who know the area) Any of you in my area?

BTW…it seems production numbers are quite low on this vehicle based on national availability. Anyone know approximately how many of these C63s are produced each year?

Thanks Again,
Mark

OK…another question…bear with me…

Somebody teach me about the different generations of this car.
For instance….what is a P30 vs. a P31?

Thanks,
Mark
