Head Bolt Affected VIN - 2010 & older, & early 2011s

The head bolt switchover occurred at engine engine 60658, which corresponds to a c63 build date during 6/2010. The build date is on the plaque inside the driver's side door.
Any C63 built before or during 6/2010 and last six digits of the VIN lower than 528000, came with the older style headbolts from the factory.
Any C63 built after 8/2010 and VIN higher than 545000 should have come from the factory with the newer headbolts.
The actual switch occurred right around car 534000, but I have seen one car built in 7/2010 that had old headbolts. I would say 528-545 is a grey area and lookup to confirm. I have never seen a car over 545000 with the old headbolts.

Of course you can pull datacards to confirm, but looking at the last six of the VIN will give you a very good idea of how close to the switchover the car is. At some point in 2013 the C63 vins went over 999999 and are coming back around again so I am only talking about 2011 and earlier cars here. All of the facelifted cars have the newer headbolts.

Hey man-
If you don't mind, I will be starting my quest for a C63 sometime in the next few months. I'm looking at 2012+ because I like the facelifted look more than the previous look, but I may consider a late build 2011.
I wanted to ask you for some VIN runs to check if the 2011s I'm interested in are affected or not.
Also, can you run the data cards on vehicles as well? Options that come with the car and showing any warranty or repair work done with the dealers?

FYI, Not sure what you're into in terms audio needs, but there were significant changes in the 2012 that make bluetooth functionality work for audio. Previous years do not work for audio without a media interface cable or something like a Tune-2-Air. But these do not allow the steering wheel controls or screen to display properly on anything but the phone's installed music ap. No BT functionality for streaming except volume.

Joe - thank you for the post. Audio is important, but wouldn't be a deal breaker for me in just about every case.
The more research I've done and read, the more I want a 2012+ as they have upgrades and looks that I truly want and would regret if I went with an earlier year build C.

Now that i'll be making the jump into a C63 (preferably a MY 2012+) I decided to join the forum! To avoid confusion it's worth pointing out that this car is a UK car built well after the changeover (11/2010 and VIN over 600000), but is listed as 2010 because of how Europe labels cars - by manufacture date, not model year (like the US).
The title of thread refers to US Model years. A car with a similar build date would be a 2011 in the US.
