HRE Wheels - Custom Finish Pics

What's up fellas,

I'm sure some of you read my ordeal with HRE's customer service (or lack there-of).

Long story short - I made the best of my situation and had the wheels redone (bolt pattern / paint) as HRE didn't want to help.

I'm somewhat happy it ended up this way, As the wheels came out a lot nicer then I initially anticipated.

Specs: -
Front - 19 x 8.5 - ET 30 Offset
Rear - 19 x 9.5 - ET 44 Offset

Finish - Nickel! + Satin Gloss.

I'm sorry for the poor quality pictures, as you can see they were fresh out of the oven, literally!

Second picture is a comparison to a stock silver finish. Its hard to capture the nuances of the finish without a proper camera. Its not gunmetal or Silver. Hard to describe, but looks stellar in person.

Cant wait to get these guys mounted finally!!!!

Cheers
Kris

Great finish. They look real nice and sharp. I'm glad it worked out for you. Please post some pics once you put them on the car.

Curious, have these ever been mounted on your car? I have 19" HRE (8 1/2 front and 9 1/2 rear) with 41 front and 50 rear as recommended my HRE. They fit perfectly under the fenders. Wondering how these will fit?

Yes they were before we finished them.

There are a few members on here who have similar wheel fitments with the use of spacers.

Typo fellas its a 30 Front.

225/35/19 Yoko Advan Sports Front.
255/30/19 Yoko Advan Sports in the Rear.

I know the setup is aggressive, but I feel it can be done. Its 2-4 MM away from what members are running already.

Matt had a similar setup i believe. But had a 33-34 offset upfront on an 8.5 wide rim.

Im pretty confident the rears won't be an issue.

The wheels look nice, they are the Flow Formed series?

As for fitment, those offsets are very aggressive. I guess ur 225-255 will help u a bit, but the tires will look stretched & small. Hope u are lowered?

Have u made sure the spokes cleared the calipers in front? Using spacers on ur set-up will make things worst.

I'm glad that you managed to get those wheels to work, but I don't understand why you would want to undersize your tires even further than what MB spec'd. It's pretty common knowledge that we need MORE tire, not less.

I guess you prefer form over function. Good Luck with that...

Wheels look great for sure, I love the satin finish. I do have to somewhat agree with Jeff though, you're likely setting yourself up for some serious understeer action with a 225 front...

I went the opposite running 245/275 Michelin PSS on my summer rims and it handles/feels way better than the stock setup. Putting power down is now actually possible vs the 255 stock rears... to each their own I guess, look forward to the pics either way.

Take a look at the review Chris Harris did with the C63 and Space savers.

I hear where your coming from, but for everyday driving I have a hunch it will be okay.

Remember my contact area on the 255 is still stock widths, while I understand that more tire is beneficial lets see how this works out.

They are indeed FF01's HRE Flow Forms. But the only one like them in the world with the offsets and bolt pattern and color for MB use.

Of-Course I will be lowered - I have a set of H&R SS coil Overs sitting here waiting to go. We just need this horrendous Ontario weather to get better.

I test fit all 4 wheels before finishing them, believe it or not I clear the calipers with them, just barely clears but still did it!

Come on Ros - You know Matt's setup have much smaller tires and still look pretty acceptable . The P40's you purchased from Ralph actually have a very aggressive fit as well.

Ralph was running this setup on his car. On the front he is running a .5 inch wider wheel = Effective offset is 28! the Rear same thing .5 Wider then my setup and he still managed to fit a 245/275 Front and Rear tire width.

This is one reason why I feel this setup would work well with our cars. In actuality Roswell you will be running very similar setups compared to me. Well a bit more aggressive then me actually!

RALPHS P40 Setup Lowered on KWV3.
Front - 19x9 ET40 5x112
Rear - 19x10 ET50 5x112
Front Tires - 245/35/ZR19
Rear Tires - 275/30/ZR19

Can you explain how they changed the bolt pattern?

The process is fairly simple.

The Machine shop fills / welds the stock holes. Essentially creating a full surface to re-drill the correct bolt pattern into.

The 2 pics below are 1 of the wheels prior to refinishing. Its hard to tell it was re-drilled since the job was extremely clean, however you can see the center part was stripped of the paint and machined smooth after re-drilling.

The second picture of the wheel mounted on the car shows the burn marks from the welding, thus the need of refinishing.

While I do not necessarily recommend going this route, I figured it would be a neat project to take on given my circumstances.

Guys, I don't want to sound as a wise-*** here but when I see people talking about understeer with a 225/35/19 tire in the front, I can't chime in.

There is absolutely no difference whether your are running 225 or 235 in the front. Tires differ in size from brand to brand so don't take it to seriously. I always get a good lauch when people say they can feel an improvement in grip when they switch from 255 to 265 in the rear (using the same tire brand). And personally, I hate fat oversized tires. I run slightly stretched tires to make the lips of the wheels more visible.

I've run all possible setups on this car (except for 285/30/19 in the rear).
My last setup on HREs was:
225/35/19 front
235/35/19 rear !
And the grip on Michelin Pilot Sports was extremely good for "spirited" daily driving.

What I am saying here, give Kriston a break and let him fit the tires on the wheels, lower the car and take it for a spin. Then we'll see what he has to say.

P.S. I haven't heard of this method of re-drilling wheels - I would be worried about steering wheel vibrations but I'm eager to hear from you how they do on the road.

Yeah Kriston, my new P40SC wheels will be as aggressive as it can be. And I know the 275/30 will rub, I just have to test my tolerance this springtime & decide how annoying the rubbing gets to the point to make me go down to 265/30. Lol

And I agree with Matt that 225-255 is not that bad.. As long as u get the right drop, the wheels/tires can look good.

I think you should be ok with those sizes as well. I'm running a very aggressive setup as well. My fronts are 19x8.5 with 235/35r19 offset is +40, my rears are 19x10 with 265/30r19 offset is +45. I'm also lowered on H&R SS springs, with 17mm shims in the rear. Alot of people said that this would rub hard, but i test fitted this already and it works good. I got about .80 of an inch play in the rear....close but it's good.

Those wheels will look very good on your car and the fitment should be very aggressive. Looking forward to pics if spring ever gets here. Here's to no rubbing.

Hope to have them mounted on the tires this week. But will be another few weeks before I get them on the car. The weather Here in Toronto has been killer over the last few months. No signs on easing up either!

Im really excited to see how it turns out, Hopefully I can get the suspension install done soon after the wheels are on.
