What's going on with my 1/4 mile time?

First time to drag at Sears Point today. Had a lot of fun but disappointed with the results. Fastest time was a 12.56 @ 116.7 mph with slowest at 12.85. 60ft time was a paltry 2.165 to 2.235. Running tune, shorty header and full exhaust on 19's. Launch was 1200rpm, esc sport on sport tranny setting. For the experienced racer....how do I improve this without weight reduction? Slicks or launch technique changes? Any rpm above 1200 I get rear wheel shudder. I feel the car is capable of mid to high 11's given a stock car will do 12.30 without launch control (pre 2011 mct). Thanks for guidance.

ford svt's, and C63!!!
Just my opinion here, but I wouldn't show up at a track without at least drag radials, although I certainly have a few times hahaha. Seriously, if you could get a sub 2 second 60', you'd be pleased with your times. So I'd invest in some drag radials if I was you.

Ooohhh, just seen you are on 19's, drag radials might be hard to find for that large of a rim, good luck, you may find someone selling some 18's here, wich is still too large for straight line traction, but I know the "sticky" tire selection gets a lot better as the rim size gets closer to the magical 15"er. My 18" Nittos do decent over-all, but great compared to the stock street tires mine came with from the factory.

He still have my stock 18's so may slap a set of m/ts on them. Ok thanks for the input. How about launching?

Andrew just turn your traction off put it in sport mode and do a normal take off and see how you run

I got my best time doing that 12.03 at 117.9

It's all in the 60ft time

Yes I wanted to try that but ran out of time at the track. Almost 100 cars and bikes went racing today. Will do, I am seeing avg 60 ft times high 1's, mine was 2.1-2.2

I'm usually in the 1.8-1.9 using the race start function. I think I may do a bit better with traction control completely off, but one time I tried that and got some violent wheel-hop, and was lucky I didn't break anything, so I'll just play it safe and use race-start, many people have done better without using it though. I believe the older C63 that still have the torque converters would be easier/more consistant to launch with, but I don't know how much stall speed you could get out of the stock converter?

How do you expect to drag race on anything but a slick is pointless.

If you can't apply full power off the line and dead hook you're wasting your time, you won't get a good time.

Every tenth on your 60' is two tenth on your time.

I 60' at 1.65, I don't load the tranny just floor it so it flashes higher and goes. Loading it the engine likely will pull timing. That's with a hooiser dot drag dead hooking.

Did you have esp on? Off or on sport when you just launched. Needed another pass or two to try, maybe next time. I am seeing stock c63 times posted at 12.3-12.6 with stock tires so was wondering what I was doing wrong to get a 12.6 with tune, header and exhaust. Guess I am focusing on the launch and how to do it properly without slicks.

How do the magazines get consistent accel times if we need drag slicks to get a decent time on the strip?

If you dont have drags then drop tire pressure 15 psi on drive wheels you will get less hop.

Different tracks, different air, different time.

I did 11.8 with slicks, race gas tune, race gas 110, -200lbs and long tune headers.

Wheel hop is never the problem, traction is and with a street tire it's impossible to get a good run when your spinning off the line.

What u want do is a big burn out .( when u see smoke count to 5 then stop) and most importantly drop your tire pressure to mid low 20 psi.

On 19's (tire pressure)? Didn't burn out on any of the runs on my street tires...may attempt next time. How do you launch the car? Power and preload? If so what rpm, tranny and esp setting? If no and just flooring it at light, what settings again. Will attempt with slicks on next runs.

On 19s with very low profile u going to need something very sticky to hook at preloaded RPM.
What I do Is I use R compound tires and do a burnout before a race and they hook pretty well on the street, if you get M/Ts preload to about 1400rpm and take off make sure ESP is off and u in sport or sport plus .
