Hi Guys,

My 09 C63 has just over 36K miles on it and I was told by the dealer yesterday that I need a new steering rack because it is leaking fluid out of the boot. $3,300 because I am a year out of warranty.

Is this problem common on these cars? Are there any other options? I am just shocked this would go bad on a car with such low miles, never been to a track, never abused in any way.

I would appreciate your thoughts.

When I was doing some searching I found that the GL-class seemed to have some steering issues, but I couldn't find any c-class or c63 related ones.

I guess I just got lucky.

not common at all. The steering rack heads on ml/gl/r are common as your research revealed.

Tech at Mercedes for 11 years, never seen one leak from rack side seals. I would def ask to see it.

I'm just finishing up replacing my power steering system on my 08 after it took a **** on a country road. (Mine completely blew out)
I think I had a leak in the system that led to it.

Replaced the power steering pump, the reservoir, and the steering rack.
Also Flushed the lines & cooler, my oil had metal shavings in it and that oil circulated through and most likely took out my whole system.

3,300 sounds like they want to replace everything.

I have heard many reports of failed powersteering pumps in c63, rack not so much.
