Weistec Carbon Fibre Driveshaft Installed!!
Hi guys,
Installed my new Weistec carbon fibre drive shaft two days ago and I thought I should share some of my review and pictures with you guys. Before I give my review, my car currently have these mods that might also affect the experience of driving. 1. Kw V3 DDC coilover 2. Quaife LSD 3. 235 front and 265 rear Michelin PSS tyres wrapping 19s Klassen Id. Build Quality: As you can see in the attached files, I toke some comparison pictures between the Weistec and the oem AMG driveshaft. There's nothing wrong with the oem AMG one but for a car at this price, I don't understand why the oem driveshaft is this weak. Firsly, the bushings are all rubber which eventually it will wear out. Secondly, our oem driveshaft comes in two piece while the Weistec driveshaft comes in one single solid piece. Oh, and the Weistec driveshaft it so much thicker and also lighter than the oem one. I can feel the car response faster than before during gear change. Also, I am not sure if it is just me, but it seems like the car is handling better and easier to control. I do have the Quaife LSD but I don't why after installing the Weistec driveshaft, it seems like the car is easier to power slide (drift ) now than before. However, I feel a lot easier to save the car back to a straight line after I installed the Weistec Driveshaft. Perhaps those who have this installed, can also share with me your experience. i dont think the weight will help the gears or trans, however carbon fiber driveshafts have a lot of flex and act like a very good shock absorber which will help the gears and trans. The weight just means less rotational mass meaning less power loss getting to the wheels. I wouldnt ever say the stock drive shaft is "weak" those rubber flex discs keep things quiet and hold up pretty good but wear out like anything rubber with age. However the stocker is pretty heavy and im sure this changes the response and power output in a positive way and is definitely stronger.

That's a sexy part.
But the more I stare at e OEM drive shaft, the more I think the knuckle in the middle is there for a good reason. It is also surprisingly cheap to replace. |

It' a cool piece but for street use nothing wrong with oem
The rubber guibo's durability is fine Rubber lasts a long time, go to junk yard at look at old tires Just give them a squirt of silicone every year when power washing/inspecting the chassis Who knows how cf will react to weather, salt, oil. Heat cycling from the exhaust As far as the center joint vs 2 end ones Joints have losses, think about it I bet the shafts have the same friction losses The main advantage is weight But so close to the axis moot for both power/top speed and torque/accel As far as flex in the rubber couplings They deform a bit initially when loaded but then are stable Torque on the shaft 1600 lb ft Force at 4" radius ~ 4800 lb over 16 bolts or 300 pr bolt 300 lbs over the length of the bolt and transmitteed to the rubber thru the sleeve Nadda Easier on the drivetrain too for NVH and ride comfort |
Thanks for the reply guys! I can't say the weight is a big difference between the stock and the Weistec driveshaft. Is about 20lbs difference and is fair enough I think. I am more concern about the durability and the power that the stock one can handle in the long run. I have a Wesitec Stage 2 coming and I need to make sure that the car is save and handles well. Cause I plan to do some track day and hope I can bring good use with the mods I did. lol.

I think I read somewhere that the c63 drive train is only rated up to 540 or something. What are people doing to reinforce the drive train when they push past that in mods on the c63. I mean it can't be that hard to make a lot more hp than 540 on this motor. ? |
