Check engine light and car shaking violently ?
This morning while driving suddenly the orange check engine light came on and the car shakes violently at any rpm above 1800. It's very strange!
I made an appointment to get it looked at while I limped to work
After I got to work I turned off the car and back on again and it's back to normal! I didn't drive it but it's smooth and revs nicely again.
Keeping the appointment to see what that was about but does anyone have any ideas ??

I have no experience with bad o2 sensors before.
Do you think there's anything bad about me driving home for about 5 miles today (aside from the annoyance of a shaking car

The codes will be stored, so they will still be able to diagnose the problem if the light isn't on anymore. I still stand by my comment that it was a bad O2 sensor, but it also could be a bad coil. My O2 sensor failed at 23k miles, FYI.

Was the CEL Flashing or just on constantly? Almost sure you had multiple misfires as that happened to me and the car was shaking. My variable flap in my intake got stuck closed so when I punched it the car didn't get the air it was expecting and the CEL started flashing and the car stuttering/shaking

I had the same problem - brought the car in to the dealer and they could not find any issues. I might bring it back to have them check the O2 sensor and coil(s). Thanks for the info!

flashing CEL == stop immediately and call a tow truck
solid CEL == you can drive, but don't push it, and take it to the dealer (or run the codes yourself).

I had something like that happen to me on two other cars. Once it was a bad maf sensor and the other time it was bad gas.
If it went back to being ok, I wouldn't worry about permanent or serious damage. That generally doesn't go away on its own.

Sorry for the old bump but my car did this this morning. Shaking and hesitation and flashing CEL. I was still close to home so limped it back. I shut her down and started back up and it drove fine all the way to work. No issues.

Prob o2 sensors. Had this happen a month ago.
Mthis and a few other members suggested this when i had the issue, fouled the plugs on one side as well. I replaced plugs and o2's. All good.

Crazy for them to fail so early. 40kmiles. Its still under cpo so I'll take it to the dealer.

Took her to the stealer. There was a stored code for the camshaft solenoid.
Have a w205 250 loaner I'm not a huge fan of. I hate what they did with the interior and hate 4cyls and turbos. Everything is in the wrong place.
