The C63 is loud
I had no idea how loud
The cabin is well insulated
Drove today, seats down, trunk open 1.5' or so
Highway and twisty mountain roads
This thing barks and crackles
I knew it had a nice snarl but when you rap it out hi rpm heavy load it roars
Really gnarly under compression braking
Best oem exhaust I have heard
For you guys who pull cats, delete resonators, straight pipes, etc
You must like LOUD, not just loud lol
The sound does not match the car
Side note current car & driver has a great article on how they tune exhausts for sound
Interesting fast fourier transforms taken at 1 sec intervals during full throttle runs
A science and an art

Oh yah in stock form, The sound is amazing.
You are bang on about tuning exhausts being an art. Its something i enjoy very much. We all know the sound of the M156 in particular the C63 to be one of the most visceral sounding V8's ever produced.
With the right exhaust setup, the car maintains its personality IMHO. Take a listen to my setup over in my other thread. I have headers / secondary cats and resonators removed. Its loud but extremely controlled. Over Runs are a thing of beauty.
Oh man I just reminded my self how much i enjoy the C63.

Not only loud but sounds good
Sonorous
Starts deep and builds with rpm and load
Just as good off throttle as on
And you don't have to wring it out to enjoy it
Just letting off the throttle coasting to a light it makes itself known

inside the cabin it sounds fairly quit with windows up, can still hear the burbles on downshifts but it isnt bad at all....had my seats folded down and i realized what it must sound like to passengers in the back MUCH different.

Agreed when I drive with the windows down and the top open this car echoes through the streets with a raw scream of power. I love it, LTH, no cats, nicely tuned and when I want to create an earthquake in TX I do.

The OEM exhaust on the BS is tuned a tone louder than the OEM exhaust of my previous sedan. I don't know if it is the difference between sedan and coupe but I do not need to fold down the back seats to hear it. It is deep and loud at wot with its typical AMG bark. Love it!

I've heard JRS's car... and it's RIDICULOUS! I thought this car was loud until I had the secondary cat delete done, now it's not as crazy as JRS, but still, enough to cause whiplash and a jump to people walking down the street with a good downshift!
