Are you talking about the CPO extended warranty?
It really depends on your car's age and mileage. But I would say 2 years extra CPO is around $4000-$4500.

I just bought a 2010 p31 with 17,000 miles on it and put a 5 year 60,000 mile benz warranty from dealership that started the day i bought it for $4,400.00.
Best part is i get 5 years and 60,000 miles from day i bought it and no deductable as long as i bring it to them.

The warranty guy at dealership tried to tell me it was only going to last me 1 more year as it was added on top of the original which i got the general mgr involved and he said no it starts 30 days after purchase and you get the full 5yr or 60k.

He told me this company writes all the mb warranties and its the best there is.

No, 5 years from first in-service date. The gentleman above is mistaken. It costs $4400 to extend the original 4 year/50k BY ONE EXTRA YEAR to 5 year/60k.

Unless he's talking about an aftermarket non-MB warranty. In which case he could be right.

FYI - I purchased a 4 year/100,000 warranty last year from Fidelity from the MB dealership. It was their platinum warranty for $3200 with $100 deductible. Note my car only had 8,xxx miles on it. Food for thought.

The catch with aftermerket warranties is that they have a "per incidence / per claim" maximum which is usually laughably low. For instance, if you needed to have $20K worth of work done for a particular covered major defect, they would pay the first $2K and you're on the hook for the remaining $18K. Not saying that's the case here, but they're usually a rip-off. How do you expect the insurance company to make a profit from your $3.2K when it's pretty much a given that your 5-year-old car is going to need at least three times that amount in repairs duirng the next four years?

With a CPO or extended MB warranty, you get 5 years and 60,000 miles from the day THE CAR WAS ORIGINALLY BOUGHT BY THE FIRST OWNER, not 5 years and 60,000 miles from the day YOU BOUGHT IT.

xxaarraa,
No not mistaken from what the GM at the dealership said below.

The warranty went into effect the day I purchased it for 5 years or 60k on top of 16,500 miles.
Zurich is the company that did the warranty and the dealership stated to me that they write the majority of mb warranties.
It says on the paperwork I have New Vechile Plan ( no I did not buy the car from them ) and zero deductable contract start date 10/09/2014.
Odometer reading at time was 16,500 miles.

They also told me since it was such a low mileage 2010 and that I have done buisness with them for years ( service wise ) that they would make it happen.

In the beginning the salesman/warranty guy I talked to did not explain it right and told me that it would start from when I bought it but, then when I went to buy it he changed his story to the date it was put in service originally. Then I went to the GM and he said it had been handled so bad that he would take care of this and make it happen and he did.

Now am I 100% positive that Zurich writes all or most of the MB warranties no but I believe I'm covered all the same.

It may not have been the normal but, It happened for me.

Also to be honest I dont care if its cpo/aftermarket as long as they do what they said I am happy.
The GM there has been there for years his family owns the dealership and I do believe he will honer it as he stated it to me.

Can anyone here verify anything about Zurich and if they do write mb warranties ?
Or any information about them good or bad ?

Sorry, I don't get the question - it seems to be based on a faulty paradigm. Buying insurance always has negative value, it is not 'worth' anything. Insurance companies calculate the statistical cost of the covered risk and add administration cost and profit to calculate the premium. It is way more efficient to self insure, esp. if you take care of your car and reduce your risk to below average through that.

That is true, unless a big repair would bankrupt you. There is a much better case for home owners insurance for that reason. But if that is the case, if you need a larger car repair, should you be driving that car?

What am I missing?

Guess its all in how much risk you want to take verses how much you dont or how much you want to pay up front verse how much later.

Its like gambling sortof I guess but you pretty much know what your in for up front.

Hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

Your statement above is simply not true. I have had very positive experience its all in the contract fine print just know what you are buying. Insurance companies make money there many in volume if 10,000 people purchase warranty at $3,200 that equals 3.2 million they fix claims but they are few and far from this number thus yielding huge profits.

Hi AMG6.3,

I think we're talking about two differnt kinds of warranty here. What you are describing is the model for the compulsory third-party liability tht might cost you (and everyone else on the road) $2K per year, but only 1 in 1,000 of those people they are insuring whould get into an accident and make a claim.

A used car warranty against mechanical defects on the other hand is a differnt amimal altogether because (a) you make a one-time payment and (b) pretty much everyone will make a claim during the next four years that wwould simply cost more than their entire one-time premium. That's why they're usually not worth the paper they're written on. Wobble64 made the same point a couple of posts above.

Cheers,
Doug

the offer is 2.5K for an additional year of CPO from the dealership.
Thoughts?
