Valve cover crack at 19,000 miles???
Hi folks
I had recently posted about a burning smell from the left front of my car- 2011 C63, run only 19000 miles.
Dealer inspection suggested valve cover gasket leak; they agreed to cover the costs considering the age of the car, even though just past warranty; great service I said. But, on removal, they report the valve cover itself broken on the left and needs replacement. they state that they can not find any other problem that may have led to this( I asked about PCV valve), and the SA thinks that this may have been a manufacturing defect.
Any thoughts, or advise? Should I ask them to look at anything in particular when they have the car. It is going to take a few days to fix the car, waiting for parts...
Thank you in advance.

Magnesium, like titanium is very strong, but brittle, and is quite easy to crack, especially if bolts were over tightened at any point, or metal on metal impact.

Likely some poor metallurgy during the production run... It happens. If the other cover is from the same batch then it's likely it will fail as well.

Unbelievable.. 4 weeks wait for replacement valve cover
Just heard from the service adviser, no valve covers available anywhere, ETA for replacement is 4 weeks, free loaner until then.
Dealer service great so far, but it is sad that Mercedes AMG do not have these in stock and it takes this long for a replacement???
