Carbon Fiber Drive Shaft Anyone?
Anyone install this as a mod with 20 pounds lighter than factory is huge as it is reducing unsprung weight.
My new wheels will be 5 pounds lighter at each wheel. Thoughts worth the 3K? |
Only worth it if you have already done other mods such as a tune, headers, etc. I'd focus on that sort of thing if you're really going for reduced track times and have FBO N/A or S/C application on your car.

I am already tuned. It should not matter if car is na or fi.
I would be interested if anyone has done this. I cant do headers I wont pass emissions. |
I know of one guy that has this mod on this forum trashmind but he never done a review
i was thinking of doing this mod as well weistec advised it will work well with the built trans but not sure |

The CF drive shaft will reduce rotational mass and overall vehicle weight but it is not unsprung mass. The drive shaft connects the transmission to the rear differential, both of which are securely fastened to the chassis.

I thought I read somewhere the big benefit of the CF driveshaft was to sort of cushion any driveline shock (launches and shifts) in order to keep things like the diff and half shafts from snapping. It will definitely be lighter and help with rotational mass, but I'm not sure you will feel a huge difference. It's not like wheels where the mass that you lose is farther out near the edge of the rim. I think of it like a bicycle wheel. You will feel weight loss more if you were to lose it at the rim or tire but not as much if you lost weight at the hub. Lighter driveshaft is kind of like losing the weight at the hub of your "bicycle wheel" but every little bit helps
