Please help a noob out on x-pipe vs h-pipe

I have read many posts regarding secondary cat delete, resonator delete etc...

I have removed my resonator and replaced it with a stainless steel straight pipe. The sound is a bit louder but still no popping sound when you downshift.
I would like to replace the secondary cat with a straight pipe but I heard its best to go with a x-pipe or h-pipe so you don't lose power without a tune. Seems like half the people say h and half say x pipe.

What should I go with? and if I decide straight pipe, do I need a proper tune ?

are you driving in s or s+? I ask because I dont get the popping or throttle blip on down shift unless in s or s+ and breaking relatively hard.

I don't have any mods to my exhaust, but if you find a 50/50 split on X vs H, it seems to come down to personal preference.

I've tried s mode and s+ and both seem to produce same sound.

What is the difference in s and s +?

When I shift with the paddles I noticed the gear and the actual gear I'm in doesn't match, kinda weird.

When you use the paddles in C, S or S+, you are telling the car what the highest gear is that you want it to use. Example: if you pull the paddle and downshift to D4, the display will change from D to D4. The tranny will happily shift automatically back and forth from 1st (2nd if in C) through 4th, but it not go above 4th. If you continue to accelerate once it reaches 4 it will increase revs all the way up to redline and then the rev limiter will kick in. It will not go into 5, 6 or 7 unless you intentionally upshift with the paddle.

Manual is different - you are using the paddles to tell it what gear to be in. It will not shift on it's own unless you come to a stop, and it will then go to 1st on its own.

Do you have a tune? That would help make the pops/crackles/gurgles more noticeable. I came across this in the PL earlier:

Your best bet though to hear the sounds is to drive in M mode.
