Roof bars - OEM or aftermarket? Which one is best for our C63?
Please save comments about "don't do this to your C63 and get a truck instead" I already have a truck, but going to do this to the C63.
I am going to pickup a Thule Atlantis 1800. Before I do that, I want to pickup roof bars for my 2011 C63 sedan. I see MB offers a factory option for ~$300. Anyone with experience that would recommend that over aftermarket alternatives such as yakima etc.? Particularly interested in thoughts around wind noise.
Also, assuming the factory kit comes with the cross bars, correct? Or is that extra?
Thanks mbworld!

MBWorld Fanatic!
I heard the benefit of the OEM one is that it doesn't touch any painted surfaces.

I am pretty content with my setup and it does not touch the paint. the quality is pretty solid too.
however i might sell mine since I don't find myself using it anymore.

Thanks guys. I ordered the OEM roof bars from ECS tuning.
Do you guys recommend a fairing to keep the wind noise down? When a roof box is on, does the fairing still help? Or is the fairing meant more for when a roof box is not attached?
Seems it's fairly easy to just remove the roof bars when not needed right? Two keys and that's it? So, why leave it on when not needed?
Sorry for all the newbie questions. Never installed roof bars on a car before, my SUVs all came with it from factory.

Hey guys,
Anyone know if a Thule Atlantis or Thule Evolution - both 7 feet long - will fit on top of our C63s? I understand from research that any box that juts out over the front windshield will create turbulence, but curious if those boxes even fit.
I need to be able to swap the box back and forth with the SUV, and bigger the better. I am looking at an 18 cu ft box (both models above).
Thanks for your thoughts.

Just posting an update for those who come upon this thread in the future. Got the OEM roof bars from ECS Tuning and installed them. Fit and finish are very good, as expected. Makes zero contact with paint. I have a Thule Evolution 18 cu ft box ready to be mounted on this and will post up an update with the box mounted later.

Posting an update for anyone looking for this information in the future.
Went with the OEM MB roof bars and a Thule 18 cu ft Evolution cargo box. Couldn't be happier with the results. Roof bars do not make contact with the paint, are quick to disassemble and put in the trunk. Wind noise is noticeable, but mpg seems about the same. LOVE the setup!
