LSD's - Quaife and WaveTrac, EC install - something to consider

There are threads regarding Quaife and WaveTrac and don't mean to crowd the board here, but thought it might be helpful to post a thread about my experience with a Eurocharged install for those who may be considering an LSD.

EC (Houston) has a lot of experience installing Quaife in c63's and I understand hasn't had any problems with them. I had purchased a WaveTrac, but -- for my '14 c63 507 -- installing it would've required a fair amount of shaving of the housing. See pic. That might not be an issue for some but I didn't want that and had concerns about warranty issues/possible leaks down the road, so, after discussing with EC, chose to swap it out for a Quaife.

The Quaife dropped right in, no shaving. EC did a nice job with it, worked with me on doing the swap out, and the car now grabs well, no issues.

Was discussing this as an aside in another thread and it was pointed out to me that the WaveTrac (I understand there's only one version for our c63's) fit fine in another regular poster's c63 without shaving, so as you might expect whether shaving is required apparently depends on your model. If you're considering adding an LSD -- and I think it's a great addition -- worth checking out in advance with the shop you plan on using whether installing it in your car will require shaving the housing -- getting the LSD part number should allow them to check that in advance, and avoid the hassle of a return.

Much different drive with the Quaife installed, still have an LSD in stock! Email me if anyone wants to get a quote on install if you're local to Houston!

Thanks,

I am going to guess and say you got the wrong Wavetrac LSD. I also have a 2014 C63 507 Edition and it was installed without any fit issues. The only thing that was a minor issue was depending on how you install a particular C-clip it will pump oil out of the vent hose. This is well documented on YouTube...

WaveTrac only has one size for our cars (whereas Quaife has two), that's the one I ordered, so I'm a little confused here. The dealer I ordered it from confirmed it was the right one, and Eurocharged took the pic that you see showing it's too large. Color me confused. Either your shop did some shaving, or the wrong WaveTrac was shipped to me despite the confirmation it was the right one. Thanks for your comment -- I'm going to double check with the dealer, as I had to take on some extra cost in labor to get the Quaife put in and to ship the Wave back. Are you 100% sure no shaving was needed to put in yours?

Yeah and I ordered the right one for my 507. Just posted this thread for those considering an LSD, if you care about whether the housing has to be shaved it's worth it to check before ordering whether the one you're ordering will require shaving.

do any of you know what direction the c clip is supposed to be installed and is it the drivers side or pass side I put the wavetrac in and it spits fluid out the breather. otherwise just a little shaving needed.
