for those of you who wrapped
looking to wrap the roof on my upcoming c63, and since i will be painting the mirrors gloss black i was wondering how close can the wrap be to actually looking like paint?
i want it to look super glossy, from what i recall all the wraps i've seen have been semi glossy.. none seemed to be "rich" i guess you can say.
anyone have upclose pics?
i can paint the roof myself, but i'd rather not.

if you get a decent wrap, it should be fine. Unless someone is looking for a flaw, they will never notice from more than a few feet away that it's not painted. My wrap is matte, and most people assume immediately it's paint, and are really surprised when i tell them its a wrap.

what i mean is, i want the "gloss" wrap to have the truly clearcoat finish.
if thats even possible.. which i have yet to see.

Most industry standard vinyl is 2mm thick. What you can do is wrap the roof in a high quality vinyl (3M) and wrap a clear vinyl over it. That will protect it from light scuffs, scratches that you normally see on most gloss finish vinyl.

This is some good info. I'm considering the same thing on mine as well. Haven't done a search yet for anyone else doing it so I'm interested in pics and details of you do do it!

This will help give you some idea of what it can look like if done correctly -

I did my roof in brushed black aluminum.
Gloss black vinyl will look like paint from a distance. up close it won't have that super high gloss black paint finish. It's close enough though.

its never gonna shine or look like real paint. also consider a good brand like 3M, not an affiliate of some sort but they have a high gloss black thats a bit shinier than other brands. have you considered plasti dip?

I think the best bet is going with a high gloss vinyl and clear bra'ing it over.
No scratches, dents or scuffs. Might be the most costly option next to just painting it but it is everything you are looking for.

I've got my roof done in CF. Nice and glossy too. It's just about the material, quality, and obviously make sure you request for gloss black rather than just black.
You could always just give 3m a call too, they'd be the experts on how to get the look you wanted. Some suggestions here involved a double wrap with a clear over the top and I'm not so sure that would be necessary to pull off what you're looking for. It would just end up costing twice as much.

I wrapped my spoiler in Vvivid's gloss black wrap, and it matched the gloss black of my Night Package very well.
You can order colour samples of vinyl wrap from eBay, and see how well it matches your target, then decide whether to proceed or not.

It'll look great initially and very close to actual paint. However, how long it lasts will depend on your daily use. If you garage her all the time, it'll last longer, but if you tend to part outside in the sun for long periods of time, it eventually dulls and gets scratched up. Have to be vigilant with water spots and bird crap also as you could get etching and as there's no polishing, you're stuck. I've had my roof wrapped on a few vehicles and for my situation, they always start getting beat up after a couple years and I have to rewrap. If you plan on keeping the car for long, paint is the way to go, otherwise, wrap is fine.

Yup. Agreed. That's why it's good if you only plan on being in the car for only a few years. Perfect if you lease for instance. But really it depends on your level of OCD.

When my wrap guy removed it from my roof, we didn't see any damage to the paint. There were a lot of adhesive residue that had to be cleaned up and resulted in some clear coat damage, but nothing that couldn't be polished out.
