Aussie Supercharged C63 Build

2 Attachment(s)
Hi everyone, been a lurker for a while and really appreciate all the great feedback and advice on here. Thought it was time I documented my C63 build.

Its a 2010 with 70,000 ks on it, completely stock. As I work in Asia 90% of the time this will be my fun car for when I get time back home in Aus. I previously had an 07 CLS63AMG which was nice but a little too heavy and not enough punch.

Couple of pics straight from the dealer.

Mods started straight away with DPE headers, CATs delete with straight pipes, Carbon mirrors, Red Carbon start button, Carbon hydrographic interior and update front grill. The car is now super loud, will need to do some more work on the exhaust to make it streetable.

Stock the car dyno's at 227kw which seemed a bit low but the car felt strong and more interested in real world improvements over dyno numbers. After the headers and a tune it gave a healthier 267kw.

Took the car straight to the strip and on street tyres managed a best of 12.2

The next week the car went straight back to the guys at VCM/Autotechnique at Knoxfield to get the Magnuson supercharger kit installed. The guys did a fantastic job and 3 days later the car pulled a very healthy 375kw at only 5psi.

Back to the strip and we are down to 11.4 @ 126mph with a 1.84 60 foot.

Next steps are to get some proper tyres, build the transmission, update the TCU and then eventually more boost and hopefully into the very low 10s.

Couple of videos from the strip before and after the supercharger and the dyno result

Welcome Dave :) nice to see you here

Hurry up and get back mate weather is getting cold

Great results!

Not a bad 60ft for street tires either.

Celicasaur 04-28-2016 11:06 AM

Your stock figure....does your car have the ~490hp stock PP option? ~55hp for headers and a tune on a stock C63 is a little on the low side, no? I always thought it was a ~100hp gain.

Great times at the strip though! I like it when people can put down great numbers on street rubber.

Who are you planning on going with for the TCU Tune?

Im missing Aus already, probably be back late October and ready to hit the strip with some more boost ! Look forward how you go when you get the new tyres sorted. Very impressed with the top end of your car:y

I was pretty happy with the 60fts, I was using some leftover 285 wide nitto tyres from my CLS. They just fit under the guards without scrubbing.

Car doesn't have the PP pack, I think with some more time on the tune the headers could have picked up some more but I basically got all this done in 3 weeks so didn't have time to have the tune optomised for the headers.

At this stage looking at the Wesitec built transmission pack and their corresponding TCU and valve upgrade but still researching any other options. The Weistec seems pretty proven however.

Dave313 07-11-2016 11:51 PM

So quick build update, just bought the Weistec transmission build package and larger transmission pan. While this is getting installed will also be going for larger injectors and up the boost on the supercharger.

Also just booked in for the Snowy 1000 in November so will be interesting to see how it goes over the standing km.

BLKROKT 07-12-2016 12:30 AM

I don't get it really. I mean, on one hand it's great to see more SC cars out there, and I'm thrilled that there's more competition in the aftermarket for this. But... that car should be running about that time (11.4) before the supercharger. 12.2 with a headers and straight-piped car tells me that something's just not at all right here.

Your SC dyno up there shows about 500whp. Is that with the headers and SC and everything? I'm curious as there are a lot of guys damn close to that number NA, and a few which may be over already. So, if I understand the progression above, you're saying that bone stock you were 304whp, then after headers and tune (intake or other stuff?) you gained only 64whp and ended up at 368whp. Then you gained 132whp with the SC and related tune? None of this is really adding up mate. I'm not doubting you at all, I just feel like your numbers and times are way off of where they should be.

(and then, honestly, to say "hopefully in the very low 10s" with just tires a trans upgrade and a "little" more boost? I'll have some of whatever you're smoking man, you must be absolutely ripped.)

Is it just me? Is anyone going to run a decent time with one of these Magnusson kits, in line with any of the other average SC times out there (10's at 130mph+), or can we just expect them all to run generally in line with a fairly strong FBO headers car?

Good luck and everything, and I'm genuinely glad you seem to be happy with the performance. But I'm just confused about a) the original state of your car to be putting out such low power and 1/4 mile numbers, and b) the math with the Magnuson SC kits just aren't even coming close to adding up for me.

charliekay 07-12-2016 01:34 AM

You are kinda right, but it is different here in Australia. Our tracks aren't as fast as they are in other parts of the world.

To give you an idea, the fastest non-SC C63 to run in the country was 11.5 and that was using MS109 with a guy who had tried lots and lots to get down from 11.7.

A Stage 2 Weistec goes around 11.1-11.2 here with street tyres and street trim. Add sticky rubber and you go 10.7-10.8 (stock tranny). Built tranny and you go 10.5-10.6.

A timeslip will tell more, but as he gets more runs and more wheel time his time will go down.

BLKROKT 07-12-2016 01:41 AM

Ok fair enough. I just looked at some other threads where one of these in Aus was running 11.1's @ 128mph, which is closer for sure. At the same time, that car was bone stock other than the SC. Surely with headers and everything this car should be significantly faster? Anyway, hope you get it dialed in man. Looking forward to seeing your progress. :y

Dave313 07-12-2016 01:44 AM

Thank Charlie, that pretty much sums it up. Also I have really only had the car out twice at the track, once with headers and then with the supercharger. Only had 4 passes with the supercharger and struggled a bit with traction and 60fts (1.88) I think with a bit more practise and newer tyres it should go low 11s with current boost which is only 5ps.

Regarding the dyno, the progression you mentioned BLKROKT is correct. First dyno run was stock standard. Next run was just DPE headers with OEM rest of the exhaust and a quick tune, last run was with the supercharger at 5psi no other mods.

Looking forward to seeing how it goes with sticky tyres, the transmission built and 10 to 12psi. Will have more time now time to get the tune just right then more time to practise at the strip.

Here is the slip from the last 11.4 run I did. MPH is ok, just need a bit more launch. Its a bit frustrating as I only get 2 or 3 weeks back in Melbourne to play with the car a year.

charliekay 07-12-2016 02:07 AM

The MPH is good for low boost. You should get close to an 11.1 just with sticky rubber. A high 1.6 60ft and street trim is moving. Up the boost and add some MS109 on top of that and you will definitely see a 10.

Surprisingly the built tranny helps, might have been the TCU and torque converter upgrade I did at the same time but it all helped with the ET.

Dave313 07-12-2016 02:23 AM

The torque converter is next on my to buy list. A mate has kindly offered to take the car down to Calder on Sunday and get some more runs in with the current setup. Will tell him the target is at least 11.1 :)

What wheel/tyre setup is he going to run?

Dave313 07-12-2016 02:32 AM

Probably wont have time to get some 16s with drag tyres so will look at chucking a set of MT ET S/S 285 40 18s on. These should be a bit stickier?
I can just clear 285s on the back.

If you aren't lowered then the size should work. I was using ET Street Radials in 265/40/18 on my 18s.

I am selling my car and if the buyer doesn't want the 16s then we can talk once he picks up the car, will help with your 60ft.

Dave313 07-12-2016 03:47 AM

Cheers Charlie, definitely interested in talking to you about the 16s depending on your sale. Im on PF as well and followed your build thread there, great time in the end :)

Thanks mate. Was very happy with the end result. I got the deposit today and hopefully finalize it next week so will let you know once it is all done.

Dave313 07-18-2016 05:59 AM

Well looks like Charlie was right on the money. Mate took the car down to calder on Sunday, unfortunately didn't have time to put on new tyres so still running what was left of the nitto street tyres. It was a nice cold day which probably helped and fastest run was a 11.1 @ 128mph. 60ft was 1.799 so with sticky tyres it should sneak in a high 10 in current trim.

Well done mate
