Rear diff oil change

Hey everyone
I was under the car and noticed the rear diff plug leaking so I might as well do an oil change on the diff and replace the plug.
What kind of oil does everyone recommend and why??

Thanks
Cheers

Depends on if you have an LSD or regular open diff.
LSD = Castrol Syntrax Limited Slip 75W-140
non-LSD = https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...ml#post6580478

What's the recommended service interval for replacing the fluid? 50K? 60k?

~2 quarts. Keep pouring until it starts to come back out then install the fill bolt.

If you are buying 500ml Castrol Syntax LS 75W - 140 get 3 and you will have a little left over.

Can you use Fuchs Titan Sintopoid LS SAE 75W-140 instead of Castrol Syntrax ?

I changed the diff oil twice in my 2010 and just reused the plugs. They did not leak at all. Just snug them up and don't over tighten them. Two to three wraps of teflon tape should help seal them up if you are worried about leaks.

Every 40K miles for LSD. Had mine done maybe a month or so ago.

I changed the oil in my non limited. the plugs went back in and don't leak. However, it developed a small swat/leak at the rear cover gasket.
I'm going to try to re-torque the cover bolts.
Getting to that gasket may mean having to drop the diff.

I've just bought an 09 C63. How can I tell if the car has a LSD? There is no mention of it in any of the paperwork I got.

yes jack the rear up. Put the car in neutral. Spin one of the tires by hand if the other wheel spins in the same direction you have an lsd.

Get your VIN decoded for your options. You can find online, or if you contact MB USA customer support they will email it to you for free.
Regarding the differential fluid change, I did a flush today and it took just over 1.5L, I purchased 4 small bottles of the Castrol each 500mL (original from the dealer) and my mechanic told me most of the forth bottle was left.

Best answer and in addition to finding out about the LSD you will have the whole picture about your car.

While you're at it you could do this too.
