Engine light on?!?!
Hey guys.
After a regular driving saturday afternoon, with regular driving mode (Manual mode, a little bit of sprint here, a little bit of braking there), this engine light came on. It has never been on like that and I'm kinda nervous about it. Other then "take to the MB dealer", any suggestions? Thanks. |

Can't tell from just a generic CEL. I recommend pulling the code and go from there.

Get yourself a $20 ODII reader, thatll do it for some generic code reading and erasing. You can start from there or post the error code here. Or bring it to the dealership or indie that can read the code.
|
Indy shops that have the star tool can pull the specific code too
|
Obviously you need to read the codes and go from there. If it happened in the middle of normal driving could be something like a cylinder misfire...did you notice the car lugging a bit afterwards?
|
Go to Autozone or any part store, they can pull the code for free

I tried to find that above mentioned 20$ OBD but the only ones I found online were around 1000$.. If you my friends could point me on the right direction I'd be very thankful. In any case, I thank you folks for the attentiont. Will take it to the MB dealer this week, just in case. |

Search OBD2 reader on Google or Amazon there are literally dozens of them.

I found around hundreds of them.. But I'm actually not an expert on that DIY stuff, so I was concerned about buying something that wouldn't be useful, in my case. But thanks anyways (no irony intended, really). Cheers!

The scanners are really easy to use. And even if you don't fix anything yourself, it's nice to go into the shop with a ballpark idea of what's wrong with your car. Of course that's just me bc I need to know what's going on at all times!
|
Same exact thing happened to me last week. EXACT. Manual mode spirited driving to and from cars and coffee. Get home, go back to car to run to supermarket. Halfway there in M mode, light turns on.... I plug in scan tool and run torque and I get 8 generic grey faults but one solid fault having to do with MAF. I cleared the code took off tune and then reloaded tune and it has been all clear since. I think sometimes when coding the tune to ECU weird little electrical faults happen cause I had just flashed back to tune that very morning.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Along with the Dash Command app for the iPhone, which was $5-10. Works fine. |
