What do you consider high oil temps?
I was at st thomas yesterday, hot lapped the car a few times and still only saw 108 degrees.
Was running consistent 11.6's at 121mph.

Really? I normally baseline at about 217 once warmed up, but driving around town in stop and go traffic it usually gets up to 230. Highway cruising is anywhere from 208-217. On track I've seen as high as 286.

Yeah, 1/4 mile hotlapping I rarely see over 230 either. But on a road course? Any day that's over about 82-85 degrees ambient temp, and I know I'll see limp mode before the session is over.

Plans have changed so I'll have my complete in-the-box 44O system listed next week when we get back from a short break. Also the finned rear diff (unused). Prefer pick-up so might work well for anyone in Western Canada.

Forsure. To each their own. Last time I went into limp mode car was reading
130°C (~266°F) on a 20°C day. Not that hot.

Thanx for that. But half the parts are already in. 50% deposit paid. With all the interest in this im sure you'll have no problem dumping the parts.

I lied, saw 105°C yesterday after ripping on it a few times, although it was 36°C outside.

That's not normal for street use. Maybe a faulty sensor if you don't actually have an issue.

I can look it up in the WIS, but does anyone know if the dash reading uses the same sensor as the ECU?

You'd have to think that they use the same data source, right? Wouldn't make sense for there to be two seperate sensors in there for the ECU and temp gauge. No other gauges do. For what it's worth, i think it's safe to assume there is only one temp sensor.

I thought I remember reading somewhere that they don't, something about multiple sensors for the ECU etc... But, I'm getting old and the memory is starting to slip.

On track, my 2012 would drop into limp mode at precisely 278F.

On the street it is typically in the 215-225 range.

Looks great! Do you know what your new oil capacity is? You might be able to push your oil change intervals a bit now.

I'm looking to get the 44o and am wondering how did you guys order yours? Through dealer or online? I know part number:A 204 500 57 00 is the actual system, but do I also need A 204 880 06 00 which looks to be just a front grill?

The cooling package doesn't do anything for the water temp (maybe marginally better due to airflow). The cooling package is for oil cooling. I think FL cars that were going into limp mode were seeing max of maybe 240F IIRC. Wobble64 had the most data on it I think.

Before 44O package install the oil temp on mine went up to 135 C at which point the car would go into limp mode. I've seen it at 121 C during aggressive street driving (the crappy aux fan used to kick in around 116 C IIRC). After the package was installed, the hottest I ever saw it around Mosport (on a much hotter day then before) was 113 C, dropping down to 109 by the end of the cool-down lap. On somewhat cooler days it stays at 112 C. Aggressive light-to-light street driving with no sufficient airflow (speed) to create a low pressure zone under the rubber flap at the front of the car and suck air down through the large horizontal front cooler results in oil temps of up to 109. In other words, it's steady at pretty much all conditions. The coolant temp is about three or four degrees lower too because the small oil cooler in front of the rad is removed (replaced with the larger horizontal one) and thus more cool air hits the rad directly.

AFAIK while you can get the package and install it yourself, there is an ECU reflash that disables the fan in the wheelwell (that gets removed as part of the installation) and also modifies the setpoint for the main rad fan. The dealer that installed the kit performed the update for me as part of the installation.

IIRC there is one new, complete 44O package listed for sale here on MBWorld.

Oil capacity is up by a liter to approx. 9.5 L. And, seeing as the only purpose of the kit is for use on cars that are going to be tracked, I would *STRONGLY* suggest that you change the oil much more often than the prescribed interval (the opposite of what you're suggesting)... as in after every two track days or ~2K miles with some street driving in between. The mechanical shear that the oil sustains when you're runnign the car at 6K+ RPM for several hours on end is enough to severy degrade it, and oil is a LOT cheaper than a new motor.

Yes - I ordered it through MB head office (the gentleman who used to be the AMG Special Projects liaison is no longer working there, but I do have alternate contacts) and had it installed through the adjacent dealership (MB Midtown). Mine was the first kit in Canada... and they even sent the shop foreman to Mosport the next time I was out to make sure it's not overheating.

Yeah, the DDT is even worse than the GP track... the speeds are lower and there's even less air flowing through the rads / coolers.

Does this package have two oil coolers? One to replace existing engine oil cooler and one for the mct?

There are two existing oil coolers, and this package replaces both (one is in front of the main rad and the other in the wheel well).
