X-pipe at cat vs. at resonator
I already deleted my resonators but now I'm looking at replacing my cats with an X-pipe. Is there a sound difference depending on where you put the X-pipe?

Whats the difference from stock to deleted res?
Do you lose the AMG sound? |
With the resonator deleted, the car sounds more or less stock under light throttle. When you step on it, it's a similar noise to stock, just louder. The car also pops and burbles a lot more on deceleration.

I haven't noticed a rasp.

No matter where you put the x-pipe it is going to quiet the exhaust WAY down and change the tone....the factory resonator is itself an h-pipe and is mainly what is responsible for the AMG bark...reinstall the reso and straight pipe the 2nds.... done ....and there are 10 dozen threads on here about exhaust this that and the other, not even that far down THIS page of the forum. Do us all a favor and use the other threads and ask your questions there as opposed to creating a new already beaten horse |
I searched already and didn't find a thread that dealt with this particular issue. Plenty have the same answer though; redo your exhaust mods.

Deleting the res will also add rasp to the sound. If you just want loudness, removing the secondary cats and replace with straights will give you that. Louder/healthier sound, same AMG bark, no drone.

Do yo also get the pops and burbles with just replacing secondaries with straight pipes?

Went to the garage shop and had it on the hoist today to measure so they order the correct ss pipes and will be in tomorrow at 10am so at 11am I'll probably be popping and gurgling around town. Lol

Haha, very nice! Write back with a review on how you like it.
