Hi everyone, thanks to all who contribute to the MB World AMG W204 forum - it helped me pull the trigger on a 2012 AMG C63 Coupe… well, the forum AND all of those YouTube C63 drifting videos!
I’ve been onboard for about 3 months now. I defected from the BMW world – I thought I was a lifer there. E36 M3 vert, 135i vert, 118i vert (in Germany), Z4 3.0i, then E93 M3. However, I got tempted first by the W205. The interior is so epic. I made the mistake though of driving the W205 C63s first, and then figured I could only afford a used C400, or a new C300, and bit the hook for the C300. It was a great car, but coming from an E93 M3 V8 and 6-speed manual, I found a great engine and transmission was missing in the C300. I tried putting a CPA Chiptuning tune on it, but driving was pleasant, not an adventure. Then came this car. Here’s some +s and -s, and then some pics. +: Engine: power, power, power, everywhere, anytime, and slap on a tune for +60 HP (I will soon pull the Eurocharged trigger). Sound: stock exhaust sounds great. Brakes: all vented (M3 had solid rears), good feel. Steering: tight, direct, good feel. Panorama roof: lots of glass and light. Nav: quicker than W205, pretty much same feature set. Suspension: solid (much tighter than C300 sport package). Gauge cluster: pretty cool looking, center speedo display screen useful. Fun: wheel spin never gets old! Styling: aggressive, angular. -: Gas tank: too small (I’m getting carpal tunnel from gas pumps). Steering wheel: rim is a little narrow (thicker M3/135i better). Interior: feels cheap in some regards – some nasty plastic, too many varieties of plastic, but some nice items too – love the dotted plastic below windshield and rear window. Nav screen: small. Tranny: OK, I’m sure dual clutch would be quicker, miss the option of a manual. HK stereo: suckage (W205 Burmester much better, although it rattled the door mounted seat controls a bit). Phone integration: my iPhone 5s will charge neither via USB nor MB dongle. =:-< Convertible: what, no vert? (Imagine how good that V8 would sound!) In sum, it’s a great car that fills in the key missing gaps from your average ride: almost too much power, solidly good drive components – steering, brakes, suspension – and that start up roar that announces the new adventure that awaits you. Viva AMG!!! |
Welcome I am also a recent defector of sorts, still have my E93 but have a 13 c63 that replaced my s4 and love it, can't get enough of the engine and that exhaust note!

Welcome.
I'm actually looking at an e36 track build w ls-swap. |
Welcome! Got any plans beside the tune for it?
|
Very nice. Welcome. That interior/exterior color combo looks great - like an angry stormtrooper! I've only been in the club for about 3K miles myself.

You sir, just got youserlf a beast. Forget BMW's, unless you own a M6 F13 with that biturbo V8 (gotta respect that lol).

Thx Roadkillrob, betreza, INSIGNIA, Steiner, and Vpatriota. :wootrock:
INSIGNIA, just the tune for now. It is a daily driver, and maybe I'll take it on a parking lot event or autocross someday, but I've seen too many of those Nurburgring crash videos to think I'll ever track it or anything. :o: |
Wow Vpatriota, stunning car!

Welcome!
You have alcantara seats? |
Welcome and Congrats. Great looking car!

Welcome!
You made the right call. I drove the W205 AMGS on the track and chose to buy a 2015 W204 C63 507 instead. The twin turbo engine just doesn't have the throttle response and there IS lag. There's almost no comparison to the 6.2L engine. Also, the W205 interior looks nicer, but I'm convinced it's cheaper quality. Look carefully at the material quality and how the switches and motors (e.g. Seat adjustment motors) sound. It's not has high quality as the W204. And note that the W205 C63 sedans for N America are made in the US, not Germany. Finally, check out the Australian review of the M4 and 507. The 507 was the hands down winner. |
Welcome, I made the switch too, you won't regret it.

whoops, wrong thread!

Congrats on your new car. They are awesome. Mine puts a smile on my face everytime I start it.

Thx for the welcome 604 C63, Mort, Surge, 507OverBiturbo, and Savage-wp.
604, yep, those are fuzzy alcantara. I wasn't sure I'd like them, but they are OK. They will prolly wear a lot better than leather. BTW, I needed a tire swap, and I'm glad the group here confirmed that 245-40-18 and 275-35-18 would work fine. I did this and went run flat too, Pirelli P-Zero, they were cheaper than Michelin. (BMW convinced me run flat and no spare is the way to go.) The 275s now can better handle all that power/torque and the wheels don't spin on every launch. :y |
