Winter tires-staggered or square?
Hi All,
I'm just getting ready to pull the pin on some winter tires and wheels but wondering what the consensus is on square vs staggered. Some say 225's all around are a little squirrelly but the tires are cheaper and you get the benefit of rotation. Is there a compelling reason to do staggered? We get snow here but it's usually cleared within a day so I'm not going through six inches of the stuff. Thanks! Joe |
Staggered just keeps the stock balance.

I would think square would be better, even traction on all ends and since they are skinnier tires they will work better in winter.
|
Not to start another gong show, but skinnier tired work better in deep snow, mud or slush, not necessarily in all winter conditions. If your roads are generally clear but cold or covered in packed snow, wide is better.

Jesus, how many ****ing threads do we need on staggered vs square or wide vs skinny winter setups? Seriously?
OP - YOU STARTED THE OTHER THREAD ON EXACTLY THIS SUBJECT. WHY THE **** ARE YOU STARTING ANOTHER ONE. ARE YOU JUST STUPID OR WHAT? https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...t=winter+tires |
Hi! I'm 10 second Tom, it's nice to meet you.

Sigh. 225/40 R18's all around and get nokian hakkapeliitta r2's.
And yes, BLKROKT, I hate myself for spoon feeding just trying to prevent thread #3. |
If you buy the MB winter package its a square set up using 4 of the 18" front rims.
They give you either 225 or 235 depending on brand of tires. Hi, my name is 604 C63 and I too am a spoon feeder. |
Ran 235 staggered for 4 years. Switching it up this year so I must be out of my mind...
I also leave TC off all winter. So yup, crazy in the house. |
