Bye bye halogen headlights

Cannot understand why a car of this magnitude would even be offered with halogens w/reflectors??....My wife's odyssey even has halogen projectors.....

Going with Morimoto D2S projector retrofit. I went ahead and got new headlights so I won't be down. Here are a few pics of the current status, hope to finish up with mounting and painting in the next week or two.

Looks great,

Have you considered a simple plug and play application though? I had great experience with there face lift tail lights. Should plug right into your stock harnesses and off you go.

Will be interesting to see how those look once in.

BLKROKT 10-31-2016 04:08 PM

Nice work looks great. That's my winter project. Just not happy with the quality of the DEPO lights. I've got everything but the lenses myself so this is giving me ideas..... Subbed.

Schulminator 10-31-2016 05:19 PM

I'll keep this thread updated with my progress. Unfortunately, I'm out of town for a few days.

Kriston, I had bad experiences with DEPO headlights on my g37. Plus their projector is sub par.... so I went with OEMs for the retro.

jptaylor 11-01-2016 02:08 PM

Ok, now THIS I can get behind...headlights are just my thing

great choice on the morimoto d2s units...if you got them from TRS then they will already be tuned with a near perfect cutoff straight out of the box....they can be pricey but if i were you i would go with CBI bulbs-they really do make THAT much of a difference

...also, while you have them apart please remove that deflector in the hi-beam bowl, never understood why some hi-beams have those when hi-beams are NOT meant to be used with oncoming traffic anyway...having it gone not only really cleans up the look but also brings in the option of going with LEDs.....i run OPT7 h7 in my hi-beam and couldnt be happier....lots of people are disappointed when they try an LED style light because the output is not what they expected...well, 9 times out of 10 it is because the LEDs themselves are actually shielded behind that damn deflector....good luck with the project and keep us posted with pics!!!!

Schulminator 11-01-2016 04:21 PM

JP, yes I'm going with the CBI's..they are by far the best performing D2s lamps I've used. I'll look when I get back home, but don't think my headlights have a deflector on the hi-beam as you can see the "coated" front part of the lamp, I know they did for the low.

Is This not a deflector that covers the bulb in these pics?https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...c952f498d9.jpg

Gotcha....so it's NOT a secondary hi-beam like us PFL guys have?

Adi-Benz 11-01-2016 08:35 PM

Tint it while you have em open if thats what you wanna go for.

Schulminator 11-01-2016 08:37 PM

Yep, got some different painting options in my head...

^^^there's something different with your fogs. Is there still a bezel? What's different?

The fogs are now Morimoto LED and you are an astute man my friend....I do have the bezels off as I need to trim to fit the bases a little

Looks good......too bad your wife is making you do all that laundry, otherwise you'd be done by now.

jptaylor 11-16-2016 07:57 AM

they look great....so you did end up going with the Morimoto D2S projector? (only thing i dont like about the D2S 4.0 is that there is no manual adjustment screw for the shield to really dial in the cutoff) Did you keep the standard lens or go with a Black Series? What ballast are you using, factory Hella or aftermarket? How did you mount the ballast if aftermarket? I'm sure that youve fired them up, how is the cutoff(clarity, color band...pics would be great)? Like I said before, I'm a headlight JUNKIE and glad someone else dives off into this stuff like I do...great work

Schulminator 11-16-2016 08:42 AM

LOL...Gerry....Yes the dining table is our kids laundry area on the weekends.

JP, I ended up going with the Morimoto TL-R D2s projector with modified cutoff lens and Hylux ballast, based on info from an installer/friend. Yes, I did aim and mock everything up prior to sealing them up but didn't take any pics. They will possibly need small tweaks once installed, but not much. Looks to be plenty of room behind the headlights for the small ballast to go.

cheshirecat79 11-16-2016 09:20 AM

quick question - what was the process for opening the lights? Were you able to heat up the seal and pull the lens off of the front? I'm familiar with modding headlights for newer BMWs (difficult if not impossible due to the way they seal the light) and Nissans (bake at 250 for five minutes/heat gun).

Wondering how easy the W204 lights pry open.

^^Correct, I did 225 for 9min and it worked like a charm.

Finally finished up and installed, I love the look and performance, these projectors blow away the halogens. They are around 85% all aimed and tweaked. The Osram Xenarc CBI lamps are the best performing HID lamps (in my opinion), super quick warm-up and very precise beam. More pics to follow of the beautiful cut off.

Your car looks great. Great job on the lights. I kind of like the FL lights without that C strip in them.
