When to do the first oil change?
Hey guys!
I was told by my mercedes benz stealership maintenance center that I would need to change my engine oil once a year or 10k miles, whichever comes first. Just wanted to verify if that statement was correct.. because i never read that on other posts regarding oil changes. Some recommend changing it with the differential fluid/after break in. Also quoted a pretty steep $279 from my dealer to change the engine oil. Differential oil change at 2k miles $170. Please let me know, Thanks guys! |
What does the manual say?

Manual reads change engine oil and oil filter according to the specified maintenance intervals. The chart with additional maintenance work does not provide the specific miles needed. Either I was given the wrong books when i bought the car or im missing a book.

aus $700 at brisbane mb dealer they just had a special at aus $500 engine oil & filter.

That was great lol. AhhMyyGawd, depending on how much you drive, I would say change it around every 5k miles. It should only cost about $120-150 per change (if it's only for the oil change).

I have LSD and need to change that at 2k miles. Then i can use mityvac for both oil changes! thx again good sir! |

There is no penalty for changing oil more frequently. If you have an LSD as I recall they have to be changed at 2000 miles. |

LOL I DIED of laughter when I saw BLKs post xD
Side note, is the Mityvac good enough? What I'm worried about is usually there is other residue or bits left in the tank. I would imagine the pump would leave them there whereas if you get it done (the hard way) from the bottom all of it would clear out. Or am I exaggerating? |
The difference between the suck-it-out-though-the-dipstick-tube method and letting it completely drain is about 20 mL (20 cc) according to the AMG shop foreman at the MB dealership.
Re OP's question about the diff fluid change - if the car has a mechanical LSD, it comes with break-in fluid that has to be changed after 3K km (or 2K miles) before you get into the regular maintenance interval. The real question here is - where are you going to find a W204 C63 with less than 2K miles on it in November of 2016??? |

no do not change your own diff fluid unless you want to chance your rear end blowing up ..changing engine oil is fine because they've made it so even a dog can do it on any car these days but the diff is another story and if you don't fill it correctly it will stop working
and you change oil every 25,000 KM or once a year http://www.edmunds.com/car-care/stop...-your-oil.html |
Agree - don't do the rear diff yourself.
Disagree - change your oil at 1/2 the interval suggested above. It's a high-performance engine, not some run-of-the-mill Honda. |
What's so difficult about changing diff fluid? Am I missing something? :nix:
