Thanks for the free bump, but I believe that everyone has their own preference and it's not nice to spill dirt on other people's personal design.
I could only imagine if someone else says the same about yours, so I kindly request that you keep your opinions to yourself

Geez... when did it become politically incorrect to call a spade a spade? I mean, sure, some peope like 'em fugly, but that doesn't mean that those of us that don't like them aren't allowed to voice our opinions. If you're going to make things that look ...er, controversial, you should be prepared for the contention from those that take issue with them.

While I am not arguing the relative [lack of] taste, I would have serious concerns with the wheel's CF rim being extremely slippery if one's hands are even slightly damp (with the exception of the last one that's fully covered and looks very nice indeed), and I definitley take issue with the new stering wheel button layout, which is counter-intuitive and a downgrade to the logical positioning of the buttons on the previous generation (that's MB's fault, not yours).

Buddy,
I don't think you'll like it if someone were to call your car design ugly yeah? Some are custom chosen by the owners themselves and I believe that if there is nothing nice to say, just keep it to yourself.
The statements you have made seems to offend every new owner with that steering model

I personally like my PFL wheel design, but I like some of these wheels. Particularly the all alcantara one and the Petronas green, which would look great when the rest of car is tweaked to match.

Yeah, they're all pretty wonky (and I realize that the centers / airbags are just placed on top - I am talking about the shape and/or stitching irregularities). Of course, should someone with one of these ever be in a collision where they are injured (G-d forbid), what do you want to bet the insurance company will take one look at that aftermarket airbag cover and deny payment for the personal injury? There is lots of fine print on voiding insurance policies when it comes to government mandated safety features...

Those covers, no matter how bad, aren't going to contain the takata shrapnel anyway...

Good point, that was my biggest fear with retrofitting a different model airbag to my pre-FL car.

It might look good & no code on dash.. but is there a way to test to see if the airbag will work in case of a collision? Serious question as my dealership didn't want to do the install & kept telling me "do it at my own risk".

Basically, a steering wheel consist of
1)core
2)adapter
3)switchboard
4)panels

So whenever a steering wheel is custom retrofitted,we would always ask the customer for their particular MY and model to have the exact switchboard aka the brain of your existing steering for buttons/airbags etc.
Once everything is swapped over, the steering functions just as per what your vehicle model will react.

The airbag adapter that is connected runs through the switchboard.

To put it in layman terms, its changing a skin but has the exact same function as your current wheels.

Hope this answers your questions

(picture stolen from a customer who received his wheels)

The three bolts that has inner springs are for the horn
unbolt and you will find a chip
That chip is the software that controls everything your steering has (e.g) volume button/paddle shifters/airbags and stuff.
After swapping the plugs in and connecting it,the other adapter slot is the receiving end for the airbag deployment which works base on the switchboard function .

Yes to that,we basically create either a design theme or as per request steering for clients.
There was a initial client from Singapore who wanted his car to have a tweaked interior to match his exterior aesthetics for his particular vehicle years back.

Custom interior upholstery for his personal one off design to match his exterior

No expense spared just to match as compared to the basic and dull Aventador interior

Central trim to match steering wheel and a new pair of amg sports seats to match the interior with blue diamond stitching together with the blue exterior.

Good infos, I guess my dealership didn't want to take the time to deal with the switchboard swap.

switchboard swap is as easy as a hexagonal screw size 25 unplug and swap over.
maximum time to do a direct swap is 10 minutes.

^^ lots to do with liability issues also .. I'm sure they don't want to be installing something as important as an airbag& if something goes bad they will be held responsible.

Airbag is just a clip in.... To bolt into the steering column.
as easy as clicking it in.
basically we believe that they are afraid of swap mainly due to switchboard stuffs.
that is why we recommend using back your personal switchboard that's strictly Programmes to your vehicle

No, they are not - they do that on a regular basis. What they won't touch is an aftermarket stering wheel and/or an airbag cover because of potential liablity issues.
