So, I'm on page 82 in my "road trip" of past postings on this forum (super educational!), and finally found 2 of the most definitive and controlled "P31 stock versus P31 Eurocharged tune" before and after dyno comparisons.

They seem to confirm what I thought: If you start with a P31 factory tune, you are very close to what the Eurocharged tune delivers in terms of peak power. The gain appears to only be in the 10 to 12 rwhp range.

Yes, it appears you get a different accelerator pedal program as well, that makes the car respond more aggressively to small throttle movements, but that is not "making more power", it's simply changing the "rheostat" response rate (like a light dimmer switch with a shorter travel from zero to 100%).

Of course, you miss out on the greatly improved burble soundtrack that the V5 or V6 tune delivers on downshifts. And since the audio soundtrack for a vehicle is a big deal for me, that IS an improvement that I would have appreciated.

All things considered, I'm not persuaded that the small increase in peak power over the P31, and the better soundtrack, are enough to accept the risk that the aftermarket warranty company could later deny a large warranty claim simply because the claim is $$$$ and the denial is so easy ("You modified the car").

So, at least for now, no Eurocharged tune.

This distresses the hotrodder in me on principle if not actual need, but I am trying hard to be "mature" and "sensible" here. You guys aren't helping of course.

I went through the same dilemma when considering a tune to my 507. The incremental power just didn't seem worth it, especially if there can be warranty ramifications. So...I compensate by driving in S or S+ as soon as she's warmed up and fold one of the rear seats down for a better soundtrack. I did add ROW air boxes however and they seem to improve the note a bit too.

Oh, oh, I think that as a newbie I am being engulfed by The Dark Side: The Comand system is starting to look almost logical to me! Why shouldn't the ability to change discs in the CD player be buried in the media submenu? Seems logical somehow to me now. Definitely better than a simple button with arrow on it! Much more elegant!

And, I must be doing something very wrong in my driving too! On my first 2 gas fill-ups, the properly measured fuel mileage is running about 13.7 Liters / 100 km, which for you U.S. guys translates to 17.2 miles per U.S.gallon! (Yes, I have corrected for the 5.9% dashboard computer error). This is awful. My hotrodding reputation is shredded by this revelation.

Before you all lynch me, it's not my fault! It's not my fault that all my city trips are short and therefore have lower impact on my total MPG in each tank, while my trips to "the big city" (Nanaimo, BC, population 125,000) are idyllic highway drives where the police and government run insurance corporation conspire together to ensure that the speed limits (mostly 90kph = 55 mph) are observed or else your insurance goes berserk! (We Canadian are pretty law abiding, and sometimes even called weenies. Our naval submarine fleet includes just 3 subs, and only 1 is apparently operational at the moment, but no one is concerned about that).

I read enviously about how most of you rip through fuel and tires at rates that I can only salivate about . . .

I feel like an underperformer.

And that understanding Comand stuff really scares me. I am descending into dark depths.

Don't you dare try to blame your fuel sipping ways on being Canadian, Mister, although Parksville is pretty sleepy.

I get 200-225km per 55 liter fill up here in The Big City. It's time for you to start driving a little less Mercedes and a little more AMG.

Now I'm really humiliated! My "Range" screen right after each fill-up says over "500" km! Today's in fact was worse (higher ) than that!! I'll need to wear sunglasses always when driving.

Nice intro Jim, your Coupe is stunning. Diamond white over red/black Designo leather and silver multi spokes is a winner
