Looking at a C63...

Good evening,

I wanted to gather a consensus on that headbolt issue for pre 2011s. I am looking at a one owner, 2009 C63 with 34k miles nearby. It's priced very reasonably at a Benz dealer. I am not opposed to a face lift vehicle by any means, but this car is a sedan and I can barely find sedans in my area (looked at a facelift coupe today actually, lol).

The headbolts have no record of being done, but being a one owner and at only 34k miles, do you think it's a good buy at $32k? I am inclined to think so but am wondering how long before I'd need to do the headbolts. It just had the brakes done and oil changed, and I believe they are newer tires too.

I guess this post can apply to all headbolt affected vehicles. I am looking at mostly facelift models, but I am not opposed to the pre facelifts (they look awesome with the front lip!!!).

Thanks!

Read the FAQ and other posts. Any PFL car just add $5k to because you're going to have to do the head bolts eventually.

Seriously, this is asked practically every single day. The answer is obvious.

I was just reading a thread where people were saying 'In B4 BLKROKT' because of this same post, lol! I saw you posting and was ready for it.

I have looked it up, but I was wondering on this scenario at 34k miles for $32k a good deal considering I'd need to do the headbolts. Facelift cars in my area are not 5k more, they are starting $40k 2012 with 30-40k miles - and I'd prefer a Facelift and probably will keep looking for them. Just figured if it's clean and that cheap maybe it'd be okay. Wanted to gather the consensus.

Thanks for your response though!

Let's see.... older model, pre-facelift, going to have to do a big preemptive repair or wait and do an even bigger one if a bolt breaks, you prefer the newer FL car and it's only 8k more.....

What do you think. Nobody can tell you what's a 'good deal' or not. Too many variables.

And 'clean and cheap' has nothing to do with the headbolts. "Oh look it's shiny, the headbolts must be fine". You have to be joking.

These posts have to stop (and I'm pretty sure they're going to with new forum policy just around the corner). There is just way too much information already here without every new guy asking for a personalized opinion just for them.

You're a grown-up. Look at the information here and make a decision like one.

I didn't check KBB, but off the top of my head, I'd say it's not a good price, despite the miles.

That's a very high price for a 09. I got my 2011 p31 fully loaded with everything for 25.8k with 60k miles but i got a crazy good deal! No head bolt issues to deal with. Has limited slip key less go which i love!

Just make sure you get one with head bolt done in 2011 or just get a 2012 and up. Especially if your planning to use all of her power (heavy foot) like me. Mines built in 2011 but is past the mark where they switched over to the other head bolt design. BTW that head bolt issue isn't something to take lightly , if not done it wouldn't make me sleep well at night especially after following that one guy's thread (don't remember where it is) whom is still in the process of rebuilding his 6.2 motor out of a Merc van, pretty cool thread but it give you an idea that you really don't want someone you don't trust taking apart your motor. Normally i do all my own motor repairs but that job requires a lot of special tools etc.. and not really a fun job. Same reason that stops me from doing a blower... but that is a different subject

It doesn't have the headbolts done, but it's something I would get done on my own. 32k is really cheap for my area for the mileage and it looks like it's brand new interior and exterior wise. 1 owner is a plus. I'm at the dealer now lookin at it.

I dont one want a car with more than 40k miles, so this is in line with the pricing I've seen.

My my area is SoCal.

I'd take a higher mileage one over one with out a head bolt job done. Just saying. BTW here is the thread i was mentioning. Give the guy mad props for doing it! https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/fo...110824/page35/

I don't know who would pay 32k for a 09 even under 40k miles. Is it fully loaded does it have p30 package locking diff? I live in san diego. I would recommend a newer year fully loaded with 15k-20k more miles. Getting an older car with less miles means it hasn't had time to show its faults yet. Just my 2 cents

I'm in socal as well and $32k does seem a bit high. You mentioned it's at a dealer maybe it has extended warranty? If yes I'd consider it after negotiating for a lower price

I think it's a good deal. Then again it's been over a year and a half since I got mine with 55k miles on it for $31.5k. Let me tell you now I wish I had opted for the 12 for $50k and 30k miles. I've almost spent that difference In repairs and revising the headbolts and lifters since.

I have a 2013 fully equipped on Vancouver Island near Victoria Airport with 46000 km (28750 mi) on the odometer that I am wrestling with as to its future. I am second owner and it is pretty much documented in terms of service. It is an Obsidian Black sedan over Red/Anthricite Nappa, 19" wheels staggered. No marks on the wheels or body. CF deck spoiler and tinted rear passenger and rear windows. Also have a set of aftermarket 18 x 8.5 ET R170 Replica wheels that are good for winters. Minor curb rash repaired on what was right front.
Fully inspected in October 2016 and full alignment completed at 42000 km.
Price TBD but will be a tad north of $42000 US if I pull the pin and go.
If interested PM me and I will send data card, pics and a summary of service history.
