Rattle in steering wheel behind airbag cover...
I hear a distinct rattle when my car is cold and its coming from behind the steering wheel specifically the horn/air bag area. I've had the dealer try and reproduce the rattle twice with no luck. It is time to take action on my own. Can anyone give advice on removing the horn/air bag cover on a stock 2014 C63 (not 507) sedan? I don't want to have the airbag go off in my face

it is very easy but disconnect the negative terminal on your battery before you do anything with any airbags.
There are 2 tiny holes that you just put a small screwdriver into to release the airbag, one on each side, takes 10 seconds once you have done it one time.

Thanks for the video, it is helpful, but i have a question...I assume that the access hole on the back side of the steering wheel is what is holding the cover on, right? What is the tool for removal, flat head screwdriver? It is not clear from the video...

Yes small flathead screwdriver with the flat face facing down, the hole is a slot that ends at a spring that you push to unclip each side, it is a bit of fumbling around blind to get the angle right and hit the spring. Once you push the spring in a bit you pull that side of the airbag towards you just a little and then do the other side and it will come right out.

I just checked my memory on line. Once the battery neg has been disconnected, go have a short coffee. The pros suggest the system sit for 5-10 minutes before starting work to insure there is no chance of static that may set off the bag.

I had a similar rattling a couple of years ago - three trips in and 10 driving days lost, MB techs replaced steering components only to discover that the cloth piece holding the airbag in place had worn through and it was actually the airbag itself bouncing around a bit.
