DIY: Roof Trim/Moulding Fix

Easy way to fix your peeling mouldings. Best solution was this $16 purchase:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/25mm-25ft-Bl...53.m2749.l2649

Looks great and matches perfectly! Hope this helps you guys out. Make sure you get 25mm ,or 1 inch, size moulding. Oh and yeah I had to sneak in my new CF seat backs in the photo. The passenger side one wasn't mounted yet, was still in the proces ;)https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...c985700aa9.jpg

Did you actually remove the old trim and put this one on, or did you put it over the old stuff?

I didn't want to bother breaking any clips. It was low profile enough that it doesn't bother me. I put it right over the stock, after I cleaned and prepped the surface a little.

Interesting, I didn't even know something like this existed, thanks for sharing. I wonder how long it will last before it peels or fades, but I guess at that price you could just do it again. Also, are the ends where you cut it noticeable? I can see a little bit of white material. Maybe hit it with a black sharpie or something.

The quality is great. I don't see this peeling/fading anytime soon.

The edges are exposed, though not noticeable unless you're 2 feet away. Sharpie has that strange reflective/purple color sometimes, so I'm just going to dab a black paint with a Q-tip on it today.

Beats $300+ for new ones - looks good!

Good job on the fix , but why not just some gloss black vinyl wrap?

If you wanted a good wrap, you'd have to take off the moulding and risk breaking clips. If you left it on, you'd have to precise when cutting the excess, and use a heat gun, and bring the car to a shop,etc...I don't have that time. One click, It's on my doorstep and installed in under 10 min.

Would it look better? I'm sure by a minute, but no one would notice the difference except you. I couldn't find anyone less than $90

Nothing wrong with what you did , Good job on actually even thinking about that. The vinyl would have been a harder fix of course but the sense of knowing it was covered up would less noticeable since it would have been all tucked under. Regardless it's alot better then before by alot and it's cheap enough to swap out ever so often anyways 😀

Also I believe the surface needs to be perfectly smooth when wrapping, otherwise all the imperfections will show, unless I am mistaken.

Correct. Mine were just starting to peel so when I wrapped them there are a few spots that you can notice the imperfections when looking closely. This is a much cleaner solution for those with massive peeling.

Just checked the site and they say it is not compatible with a 2013 sedan. Bugger! Don't need it now but good to know it is out there. Somebody will have it.
Good find. Looks good.

There is no compatibility with any particular vehicle - it's just 1" wide. Your mouldings should be the same and this would fit. If your mouldings are wider or narrower, they have different sizes.

Good to know. Thanks

Alex - a small favor: Next time you reply using the Quote button, can you try NOT to include all the pictures? We've already seen them once . . .

Alex.currie44 06-25-2017 04:00 PM

Well excuse me!
I sincerely and deeply apologize for my gross misbehaviour and apparently bad manners.
That said if you looked at my second reply I did just that.
Please do not make any mistakes on your future posts mate. I will be watching.
Next??

Use this tape or buy new OEM strips which will no doubt peel again at a later date. I discounted vinyl wrap because my strips are no longer smooth and I do not feel like stripping back the whole top layer.

Now trying to find someone who will ship this stuff to Australia.
